A Culinary Revolution in Colonial Virginia

There was a time not long ago when a family visit to Colonial Williamsburg meant living a, shall we say…  dated lifestyle.  Many parents, especially those with tweens and teens who bore easily, pushed off a visit to Virginia’s Historic Triangle until their empty nester years.

That’s no longer necessary. Thanks to the surge in gastronomic tourism (71% of travelers surveyed in 2015 said their trips had a moderate or high food focus), many historic destinations are appealing to forward-looking visitors by upping their foodie game.

Lake Charles Louisiana Knows How To Party

Given a limited budget, an unlimited appetite and an interest in local culture, you can’t go wrong with a weekend escape to Southwest Louisiana, the South’s party capital.  I recently spent three days in a Lake Charles casino for the annual Travel Media Showcase –- the best conference to learn about new destinations and what they offer travelers.

Disney Springs Celebrates a New Era of Family Magic

If you haven't been to Downtown Disney for awhile, newly renamed Disney Springs, you're in for a big surprise. The area was once home to Pleasure Island with friendly nightclubs, comedy acts and lounges drawing in adults and parents weary after a day at the theme parks.

Wellness and Relaxation Come Naturally at Amelia Island Plantation

At the TMS Family Travel conference held on Amelia Island, I experienced how one man’s passion for the culinary arts can convey an aura of wellness over an entire resort.

That passion belongs to executive chef Daven Wardynski, who has led the culinary team at Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort since October 2012, and is currently supervising chef for all the Omni Resorts east of Texas.

Fabulous Fall Getaways

Escaping from everyday life during fall is one of travel's greatest secret pleasures: the perfect climate, right ratio of visitors to locals, meals that celebrate the harvest bounty, and off season prices that make it truly affordable. With frequent school and work breaks for the Jewish holidays, Columbus Day, Halloween, Veterans Day and Thanksgiving, there's plenty of opportunity to take advantage of resort, tour and airfare discounts.

Outstanding Family Vacations at Martinhal's Portuguese Resorts

The proverb “Necessity is the mother of invention” came to my mind when I met Chitra Stern, the founder, along with her husband, Roman, of the Martinhal Family Hotels & Resorts in Portugal. As the parents of four children, they know just how important family vacations are, and they know exactly what parents are seeking during the precious time they have to spend en famille.

Falling Peso Means Big Savings on Fall Trips to Mexico

In the last six months, the value of the Mexican peso against the U.S. dollar has decreased about 15%, making Mexico vacations more affordable than ever. New direct flights from Southwest have added to the airlift, which means airfares are lower, too. We’ll use Puerto Vallarta, a beach town we know well, as an example of all the reasons to travel this fall with fewer vacation dollars in your wallet.

My first reason to return to a Mexican beach town like Puerto Vallarta is that this town has charm and culture to spare – at no added cost.
