Custom Itinerary: Top Value Hotels for San Antonio Family Vacation - My Family Travels

Q. Deborah B. of Shreveport, Louisiana is driving to San Antonio, Texas and looking for top value hotels along the way.

A.  Thank you for your request for trip planning assistance on your spring break drive from Shreveport, Louisiana to San Antonio, Texas. As we understand it, you are looking for full service hotels priced under $200 per night for this six-day trip with your husband and adult daughter.

In terms of convenience and speed, you have a choice of a few routes by major highway: Drive south from Shreveport to Interstate 10, and stop in Houston, then continue to San Antonio. Or, head straight west to Dallas, and then south from there to San Antonio.  Or, head southwest through Austin, Texas (shortest, should take about 6 hours).

In case you need information for the main stops along the way, we'll recommend some of the sights you'll enjoy in Houston and Dallas, and some hotels in those cities.

Houston Family Attractions reviews sights and attractions in Houston.

Houston Family Hotels: Lovett Inn is a very nice, restored B&B with swimming pool, great neighborhood, suites with king bed and sofabed and breakfast for under $160/N.

Dallas Attractions reviews sights and attractions in Dallas, if you stop there.

Dallas Family Hotels reviews several hotels in your price range that welcome families.

Austin: There are many wonderful resort hotels outside of Austin with great golf and tennis facilities, and spas, in the Texas Hill Country, which you can read more about in the FTF Guide to Texas. They are likely to be outside your budget unless there is a seasonal special going on, so please check the websites mentioned.

A family hotel in the city of Austin that we like is the Radisson Hotel & Suites Austin-Town Lake (512/478-9611), located on the lake at 111 East Cesar Chavez Street, Austin, TX 78701. Rooms are under $200 night.

San Antonio Attractions is a collection of reviews of family attractions and sights within San Antonio.

In San Antonio, we like the River Walk hotels best because of the location. You can easily go back to your hotel midday to relax, and have the best choice of restaurants within walking distance. See San Antonio Texas Family Hotels for reviews of hotels which mostly fit your budget.
