Megabus is giving away 200,000 seats on North American routes for travel between January 9 and February 28, 2013!

Megabus buses come equipped with Wi-Fi, bathrooms and power outlet — making a short trip cheaper and more convenient than even driving your own car. They're also great for a relaxing family vacation since you can leave the driving to them, as noted in our report on Chinatown Buses, Megabus and BoltBus.

The bus company, well-known for its $1 fares, brought back its free-seat giveaway on December 5, 2012 and seats are up for grabs now.

Just use promo-code TRYMEGABUS before clicking "search" and perhaps one of your fares will be labeled $0.00.

A small reservation fee does still apply, but one customer only ended up paying 50 cents roundtrip for a 4-day weekend from D.C. to New York.

All routes and times are not available under the free-seat promotion, but with some patience and flexibility you'll be able to snag a quick getaway to one of over 120 different locations in North America. Keep trying your luck at Megabus.com as seats may open up later on during the promotion.

The promotion's fine-print restrictions are as follows:

"Due to local regulations within Canada, free seats for travel to Kirkland and Montreal are excluded, however additional $10 seats have been made available. Within the USA, Academy (New York – Atlantic City), Concord (Portland – Boston), ShortLine (New York – Binghamton), Van Galder (Chicago – Madison) and Suburban (New York – New Brunswick – Princeton) bus lines will also be excluded from the free seats offer."
