Allianz Global Assistance, a leading provider of travel insurance and a sponsor of Family Travel Forum’s 2016 Teen Travel Writing Scholarship, has announced the winners of their own ScholarTrips program, which has been supporting high school and college writers since 2004.
In answer to the question “What inspires you to travel abroad,” 1,200 students submitted an essay or video for the opportunity to win cash grants for further travel and cultural explorations. “We were overwhelmed by the record-setting number of entries we received in this year’s ScholarTrips contest,” said Joe Mason, Chief Marketing Officer at Allianz Global Assistance USA. “Based on that enthusiasm, we decided to increase the number of winners who received prizes in the hope that more students would be motivated to travel. We feel strongly that travel brings people closer together and makes the world a better place and we’re honored to sponsor this terrific contest.”
Due to a significant increase in submissions this year, Allianz increased the number of prizes, and over 70 students received nearly $40,000, bringing total prizes awarded by the program to almost $150,000. Six First Place winners received $2,500 each; 10 Second Place Winners received $1,500; and 25 Third Place winners received $500 each. Thirty other finalists received $50 gift cards.
Samples of outstanding video entries include Micah Stubbs’ “More than Potatoes”:
Lalese Stamps’“London Here I Come”:
and Elaina Cole’s “Screen Saver”:
