Just in time for the winter 2009-2010 snowsports season, Parents magazine has revealed their first-ever roundup of the "10 Best Snow Resorts For Families" survey. First ever is quite a feat, since this wonderful magazine has been helping us raise kids since its inception in 1926. We are pleased to share their survey results because they examined the resort facilities at various ski resorts, while the FTF roundup of Top 10 Family Ski Resorts focuses on on-mountain facilties with an eye to kids' clubs and nureseries. Our picks, culled from 10 years of snowsports mountain reviews, have proved to be controversial.
We would love your feedback on Parents' picks, and are delighted to point out that Okemo Mountain Resort’s Jackson Gore Inn, a long-time Family Travel Forum favorite and one of our own Top 10, tops the Parents list.
In this challenging economy, as holiday breaks inch closer and families start looking for affordable vacation spots, snow-covered getaways are proving to be more wallet-friendly than beach vacations. According to their announcement, Parents magazine worked with tourism boards in states where snow is plentiful, to research the inns, lodges and resorts that not only welcome families with open arms, but cater to their needs.
From more than 100 contenders, Parents narrowed the field by evaluating the family activities on site and at nearby ski areas, the quality of ski lessons for young children, the standard room size and amenities, child care services, kids’ clubs or supervised play areas, and the price tag.
10 Best Snow Resorts for Families
According to the Parents survey, and you can read more about them at Parents.com, these are the very best in America.
"We know that a winter vacation is a real treat, but tight budgets and the challenge of finding a kid-friendly destination can make planning a trip tricky,” said Dana Points, editor-in-chief of Parents. “The ten affordable resorts on our list have thought of absolutely everything families could want while on vacation. Whether you’re interested in skiing or s’more-making, an ice rink or a heated pool, there is something for everyone at Parents’ top picks," she adds.
