After living in this state for two years, it was time.

It was time to head South.

Past fruit groves and expansive fields along the road, past the cliffs and turning roads of San Diego, past the Navy aircraft of the USS Midway Museum, past the small beaches crooning carpe diem, past smoke blown from houses in mouths, past smoggy clouds above jaded crowds

Southern California had rhythm, had psychedelic beats of bodies swaying along streets, and had cynicism tinged with idealism.

No wonder Venice Beach housed artists that explored the edges of perception and expression.

Yet even while surrounded by starry-eyed people, I kept my eyes on the stars (easier done at Griffith Observatory), inhaled the mystery, and exhaled my musings.

I’ve always been better at observing.
