Niagara Falls - My Family Travels
Niagara Falls
Rainbow over Horseshoe Falls

A family of three is going for a boat ride down the Niagara River. They are enjoying themselves when suddenly an unthinkable thing happens. The motor on their boat quits working. Normally this would not be a big deal because another boat could come pick you up. However, on this particular day, there were no other boats on the river. The current is getting stronger. Suddenly they are in raging rapids. The kids, one boy and one girl, manage to get their life vests on right before the boat tips over. They are being pushed closer and closer to one of the biggest waterfalls on the North American Continent, Niagara Falls. On the banks one of the tourists spots the little boy crying for help. However he is too far away for them to help him. The girl manages to grab onto one of the onlookers. They saved her from a terrifying plunge of 170 feet. The boy, however, is not able to grab hold of one of the tourists hands. He descends over the Canadian Horseshoe Falls. The rest of this story is a miracle. This little boy, wearing only a life vest, manages to survive the fall. This in itself is one of the many miraculous stories that there are to learn about at Niagara Falls.

My family and I have traveled to many different states. None though have amazed us with its beauty and elegance as much as Niagara Falls, located in Buffalo, New York. It makes you wonder how nature could create such a spectacular force. With the water gushing out over the cliff at speeds of 30 miles per hour, it makes you stand there in awe as you gaze over this natural wonder. There is no better way to experience this force of nature than by riding a boat called the Maid of the Mist into the heart of the Horseshoe Falls pool. The boat rocks back and forth at such great lengths that it makes you feel as if you are going to tip over. You get to experience hands on the fury of Niagara Falls.

My favorite activity was The Cave of the Winds. There are decks that are built just underneath the American Falls. With three different levels, you can choose which thrill to experience. There is a reason that the third and uppermost deck is called the Hurricane Deck. There is so much water hitting you that it feels as if you are in the middle of a huge hurricane. All the water splashing against you creates great difficutly in being able to open your eyes. This is a once in a lifetime experience.

There is so much beauty in the Falls that you could just look at them for hours. With the sun hitting the mist just right, rainbows are created that add a touch of elegance. If you look closely you might be able to see the Maid of the Mist, a legend about an Indian girl who went over the Falls. It is said that her spirit now roams the waters and keeps everything in its natural beauty. It is hard not to believe this legend when experiencing this amazing scene. Buffalo, New York, will always remain one of the greatest treasured family memories.
