Ever feel like you’ve maybe spent too much time in the city? The constant rush can really wear down on a person. Well, I have found a place for you, fellow city-dweller. Minocqua, Wisconsin is the perfect escape for one settle down in for a week or two of vacation. I’ve been to many places where there is a continuous push to sight-see, and to always be on the go, but how is that a vacation if you end up coming home from your journey more tired than when you left? Rejuvenation, peace, wildlife, and adventure, that is what Minocqua is made up of.

Located in Northern Wisconsin, the town is completely surrounded by lakes. The main street is full of charming boutiques such as “Gaslight Antiques & Collectibles”, “The Root Cellar”, “Christy’s”, and many more. The Greek “Island Café” is a delicious finishing touch to a day of shopping. One can golf, hike, bike, and camp, but the main attractions, and reason I love Minocqua, are the lakes. Finding lodging in one of the many available lakefront cabin options or hotels is an essential as access to one of the lakes is a must.

The best places to be in Minocqua are on a dock or in a boat. Anywhere near the glistening, clean lake water is where you’ll find solace. Sitting on my cabin’s dock with the wind pulsing through the pine trees, the waves slapping the rocks on shore, and loons calling their eerie cry, I know there is no place I’d rather be. With a searching glance around the lake, you’ll see Bald Eagles, turtles, muskrats, and herons. Armed with a good book and plenty of suntan lotion, you can always plan to spend as much time as possible on that dock and in the water.

Once you’ve had your fill of peace and quiet, it’s time for some fun. For days when you’re ready for excitement, a local boat rental shop like “BJ’s Sportshop”, “Chequamegon Adventure Company”, “Hawks Nest Canoe Outfitters”, “J & J Sports, Lakeside Rental and Storage”, or “Minocqua Sport Rental” supply kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, skis, tubes, kneeboards, and any other water toy you desire. Also, a great recreational spot for games and get-togethers is Torpy Park. With a large beach, tennis courts, a playground and restaurants close-by, the park is an ideal family destination. For the evenings, one could enjoy the plentiful fishing or the annual summer “Min-Aqua-Bats” ski and acrobat show every Wednesday and Friday.

All in all, Minocqua, Wisconsin is a fantastic vacation destination, especially for the whole family. With plenty of activities to do, you can never get bored, but with plenty of ways to relax, you can always regain your energy. I urge you to make time for a trip soon, and you’ll be glad you did.
