Live Music Capital of the World - My Family Travels
Texas State Capitol
Downtown Austin

A great place everybody should visit is Austin, Texas. Why? Well, I’m from Austin, Texas which has a rich history that starts in December 7, 1839 when the city was founded.  Austin is the capital city of Texas, which was originally to be located in Houston, but was later moved here.  Austin is located in Central Texas and is named after Stephen F. Austin who was the first secretary of state.  The area of Austin, Texas has been inhabited by human beings since 9200 B.C.  In 1881 public schools in Austin first opened.

Austin, Texas also has a lot of great tourist attractions.  Zilker Park is a place where one can ride the miniature train called the Zilker Zephyr.  Also, in the park there’s the Barton Springs pool as well soccer and volley ball fields.  There are lots of things to do here along with the Austin City Limits music festival, ACL.  For those of you that like Christmas events, there’s the Trail of Lights in this park.  All of the great bands featured in this town lead to Austin being named as the music capital of the world. In downtown, there’s the Bob Bullock Texas History museum, which explores the history of the city from start until today.  It also houses the famous IMAX Theater with its giant screen.  Some really great events held in downtown are South by Southwest, Austin Film Festival, and Fun Fun Fun Fest.  South by Southwest Austin and Fun Fun Fun Fest are music events with a lot of bands and artists playing.  Austin Film Festival, first held in 1994, is where various films made in Austin are shown.  Austin is also known to be ‘The Live Music Capital of the World’.

For sports, Austin has The Texas Longhorns which is part of the athletics program of the University of Texas, originated in Austin.  Sports played in the program include, but aren’t limited to, football, basket ball, baseball and tennis.  They are best known for football and won 10 gold medals in 2008.  Their rivals include Texas A&M and The University of Oklahoma.  They are fierce and ready to win any game!

Austin has grown so much since the 19thcentury and has become a center for government and education with the Texas State Capitol and the University of Texas.  Austin is a great place to learn with 29 public school districts, 17 charter schools, and 69 private schools.  AISD (the one I go to) is the biggest one which serves most of the state.  Austin Independent School District has always managed to stay within the top performing high schools in the nation.  The students in Austin Texas work hard for success!

Austin has a great economy and is a big center for technology.  Tech companies include Apple, Advanced Micro Devices, IBM, Freescale, Intel, Samsung and many more.  Austin is a hard working city ready to make a better tomorrow for everyone.

‘Austinites’ (Austin residents) have a very diverse mix from high tech workers, blue-collar workers, to government employees, foreign and local college students, musicians, and business people.

Austin is a great place to live, love, and visit.  It has wonderful sites, people, and things to do. Everybody should visit Austin.
