New York City of the South - My Family Travels
ATL schloarship picture

New York City is the epic center of the North of the United States and even though many believe that down here in the South there are only pastures, farms, and wild stock, they are wrong. The South has its own city that could match the greatness of New York City, Atlanta, Georgia.  It has the vibe of New York City but around the wee hours of 3-4 it does sleep.

I have lived in Georgia  since 2001 but trips to Atlanta are ones I always remember because I get to witness and take part in new activities. Thus, if you are only in Atlanta for a day you have to visit the Georgia Aquarium. It carries a wide variety of fishes, whale sharks, sting rays, and even  glow in the dark jellyfish!

Georgia Aquarium is located in what I like to call the triad because literally right across from it is the CoCa Cola factory and to the north ,Centennial Olympic Park. If you did not know Coke originated in Atlanta thus a tour is offered that goes into how CoCa Cola came to be. At the end of the tour you get to try the different Coke’s around the world! Heaven if you are a CoCa Cola lover!

After you visit the aquarium and the factory you just head straight and you will find yourself in Centennial Olympic park. The significant of this park is that it was created because the 1996 Summer Olympics was held right here in Atlanta! Don’t believe me the old torch is still there! The walkways of the park are paved with bricks that are engraved with messages that are very moving to look at. The park is truly a gem for being right in the heart of downtown.

I know however as tourist you want to not only visit landmarks but go shopping and no worries Atlanta has it. Underground as it is called is an area that is literally underground that carries apparel shops, jewelry stores, and restaurants . Underground is cultural as well because you can take part in a tour that lays out the whole history of the city of Atlanta. From when the colony of Georgia was founded, to the devastation felt by Atlanta due to the civil war, but  then the  rebuilding of the city to the greatness  it is now. Even the history of the Atlanta native Martin Luther King roll in the Civil Right movement is included.

Five Points is also a shopping plaza that has outside stores. The feel of having the luxury to walk outside to shop ,while enjoying the weather is truly wonderful. If you get hungry while shopping there is this amazing place downtown Johnny Rocket that has the BEST smoothies. It’s not only smoothies either it has burgers, wings, and salads as well so it’s the perfect place for any type of person.

Sports and music is also available in Atlanta. The Gwinnett Arena host the latest and famous musicians while Phillips Arena holds most of our MBA basketball games, and the Georgia Dome the NFL footballs games. Tickets are easily available online if you ever wanted to go to an event.

I hope you have come to realize that Atlanta, Georgia is the place you have to go if you are ever in the United States. In the ATL our shopping centers are to die for, our entertainment is always being offered, and the cultural history of our city is rich that there is so much you can explore!
