Have you ever been to a place that just makes you feel at home? Maybe somewhere you feel so comfortable and at ease that you almost never think of going home? And then when it is time to go home, you don't want to leave. Well I get that feeling every time I go to visit my grandparents. They live in a small city just on the outskirts of Corpus Christi called Rockport, Texas.

Rockport is one of the friendliest places I have ever been too. It is such a small community  that  anywhere you go you are likely to run into someone you know. I think that makes a community really special. People are always eager to help confused tourists with directions or just simply to suggest a good dining spot. My all-time favorite spot is The Boiling Pot. The Boiling Pot is not like any other seafood restaurant. The only things you can order are shrimp, crab, crawfish, sausage, corn on the cob, and/or a cup of chili beans. Once you select your preferred items, they put parchment paper over the tables and just dump the hot steaming food on the table. There is no silverware at The Boiling Pot. In fact, it's the only place you won't get in trouble for eating with your hands! The Boiling Pot offers a family-friendly and fun atmosphere and I always have the best time with my family when we visit.

Since Rockport is just a few minutes outside of Corpus Christi, it is easy to go and sight-see. Corpus offers so many attractions and fun things to do. Whether it’s going to the Texas Aquarium and feeding the dolphins or visiting the many museums Corpus has to offer, you’re sure to have a fun time with your family. If you ask me what the most fun attraction is, it is definitely the U.S.S. Lexington. The U.S.S. Lexington is an enormous World War II aircraft. The ship has really cool flight simulators and a movie theatre room. You can even go to the very top of the ship and view replicas of the air-craft that was shipped on the U.S.S. Lexington. If you are really curious, you can even stay the night on the ship.  Just be cautious though, there are many tales of ghosts lurking about the corridors of the ship!

Setting all attractions, dining spots, and museums aside, there is one place that you just have to go to:  the beach! I don’t see how it is possible to visit without going to the beach! The beach is without a doubt my favorite part of the whole trip. Sometimes we go to the Rockport beach. Sometimes we visit the beach at the bay in Corpus Christi. But most of the time we go to the beach in Port Aransas. Port Aransas is an island only a few minutes from Rockport and you can only get there by ferry ride! The beach at Port Aransas has huge waves and sandy beaches. I wouldn’t call the sand pristine, but I think the seaweed just adds to the charm of the beach.

It is always the highlight of my year when we visit my grandparents. They live in such a wonderful area with so many things to do. The mouth- watering food, historical sites, and fun beaches just add to the relaxing atmosphere they call home. I would really love to live in Rockport one day and get to experience all of these things every single day. It really is my home away from home.
