Fort Worth, Texas was built around trains, cattle, oil, and a thriving industry in the arts. The first place a tourist should visit is “cow town” or downtown fort worth. The streets still have their original cobblestone pavement and livestock arenas.

A tourist should visit the Fort Worth Stock Show, held annually for twenty-three days from mid-January to early February. There of things for animal lovers to do from watching a rodeo to watching livestock judging to participating in a livestock show personally. Watching a rodeo or participating in a livestock show has a small fee, but it can be a fun time. If you have an animal you would like to show, then sign up! They show a wide range of animals from pigeons to pigs to cows; they even show alpacas! I have even shown my dairy goat and placed fifth, which is a big deal to place at the Fort Worth Show. If you’re not an animal lover then there are plenty of rides and games for every age too.

Popular places to eat after visiting the Fort Worth Stock Show are Texas De Brasil, Simply Fondue, Bob’s Steak and Chops, and Flying Saucer. Texas De Brasil serves primarily meat for your server to grill so I would advise vegetarians to stay away. Simply Fondue is a great place to eat lunch. They have a myriad of fruits, cheeses, and meats to dip in different fondues.

Sundance Square has plenty of places to rest after eating. The Bass Hall has is a performance theater showing operas, ballets, and symphony orchestras. You can purchase tickets online at www.basshall.com. There is an art festival held near Sundance Square from April 10-13 if you come in the spring. The art festival is several blocks long and you can watch a magic show or look at the art displays that have anything from photography to woodworking to pottery.

If you’re a junior or senior in high school and are looking for colleges then Fort Worth is an excellent city to look for colleges. Fort Worth is a major area for educational institutions and there are several universities and community colleges in Fort Worth to visit during your stay. TCU or Texas Christian University is a popular and well known school. They offer campus visits year round and you can have a personal campus tour if you schedule it in advance.

The nightlife is one of the best in the Southwest. Billy Bob’s is extremely popular and has many country stars either already famous or getting recognition playing at their bar. Billy Bob’s also has pool tables, an arcade, bull riding, and a café. You can even get your picture taken on a mechanical bull or watch Randy Travis and Willie Nelson on stage where they perform often. If your scene is dancing then visit the Stage Coach Ballroom. It is one of the largest dance halls in Texas as well as one of the last authentic ballrooms. Embargo is a more modern dance club and is popular from beginners to master dancers. Embargo offers group dance lessons and latino food.
