As soon as my cousin and I discovered that we had relatives in Hawaii, we have been pestering out parents to take a vacation there ever since. That was ten years ago, and last summer, when I was seven-teen, I finally got to visit one of the most beautiful islands in the world. Year after year, I have had summer school or my parents could not afford to leave work and even my cousin giving birth to a daughter, has prolonged my beloved vacation to Hawaii. So when my dad confirmed that we could go, imagine my excitement especially after the most stressful year of high school. We were set to go in early August 2009 to the big island of Oahu. The wait before the trip was torturous; all I could think about was the beautiful scenery and the wonderful memories that are going to last in my mind forever.
The first day, we visited Waikiki beach, which was not far from the Waikiki Prince Hotel where we stayed, early in the morning and walked the Waikiki International Shopping Strip. Time seemed to pass by so slowly there so you could enjoy every minute and do one hundred things a day. Throughout the rest of the five days, we reunited with family who hasn’t seen my father since he was my age. Imagine their reaction when they realized how much time has passed and things have evolved. We shared many stories about our lives during brunches and dinners. I don’t know what to say when people ask me what my favorite part was.
I can not rank the wonderful things I have experienced in Hawaii; the nature, my family, or the adventure, were all heart opening things for me. Hawaii was like its own little planet where people had so much pride to be themselves. The nature there was so carefree like everybody was on vacation and there was nothing to seriously worry about except where you will eat for that day. I would love to go to Hawaii again soon because nothing else I have ever seen can compare to the natural beauty of the island.
