Networking is a key asset in the world of business. Making connections with people is essential to do well in business. My father, being a doorman at a hotel, networks constantly. Recently my father made a connection to Bill Walton, a famous basketball player that played for the Los Angeles Lakers. My father and I traveled to California for vacation and to try and meet Bill Walton.
My father, being a doorman at a busy hotel in New York City, noticed that Bill Walton, and his family, were staying in the hotel. He wasn’t able to introduce himself, so he thought it would be nice to send wine and cheese up to Mr. Walton’s room. Mr. Walton then came and thanked my dad for everything. Then, around Christmas time, my dad received a card from the Walton family. It was there Christmas card. My father and I then planned a trip, on Memorial Day weekend, to go see my cousin, who goes to UCLA. Being in the Los Angeles area and the Lakers were in the playoffs, my father tried to contact Mr. Walton.
On the day we got to California, May 23rd, would have been the game Mr. Walton could have gotten us tickets for. We never received a response from, and watched the game in our hotel room. Since my father brought the Christmas card with him to California, we had the Walton’s address. Using the Maps application on the iPhone, we located his house, and decided to take a ride over there. We proceeded to take multiple pictures outside the Walton residence. We were disappointed that networking didn’t work out for our trip. The rest of the trip was loads of fun. This was probably one of the best trips I have taken. It was definitely the most fun. Ironically, we received an email a few weeks later and he apologized for not being able to help us out.

Sadly, my father’s networking to Mr. Walton didn’t work out as planned, but we still had a great time. Making connections with people is an essential to do well in business.
