Every year, my family and I take our annual, adventurous trip to Ocean City, Maryland. We stay at the Plim Plaza hotel, which is not a five-star hotel but its descent enough. Some amenities are an Olympic sized pool, three Jacuzzis, a bar with live music, and free parking. In my opinion, the most interesting part about the trip is the drive there. It amazes me that Maryland has so much agricultural land. I feel like I am in a whole different state with all the corn fields and horses I see along the way. It is also entertaining talking to my family and planning what we are going to do when we get there.
After we check in and settle in our room, we immediately go onto the beach. This is my favorite part of the vacation because it is fun going in the Atlantic Ocean with my dad and little brother. Sometimes we will go out really far, even though we cannot swim, and quickly get pushed back to shore by the rough waves. My brother and I also collect seashells as well. One time we saw a pod of dolphins swim by which was really amazing to see.
When were done on the beach, my mom takes my brother and I on the boardwalk to get a snack like Dippin’ Dots or polish ice before we go to dinner. When you go on the boardwalk, there is a huge mixture of scents like the salty ocean water and Thrashers French fries. Since my brother is really hyper, he goes back to the hotel room while my mom and I explore the boardwalk.
The restaurant we go to is in the Plim Plaza basement. It is an all you can eat buffet called Paul Revere Smorgasbord. It is not the fanciest restaurant but the food is delicious. My favorite part is the all you can eat dessert bar. They have desserts from pudding to Boston cream pie. After dinner, we go back upstairs for a few minutes to let our food digest. When we are ready, we go down to Trimpers rides with the famous wooden carousel. It is really fascinating because each animal is hand carved and painted back in 1902. The other rides at Trimpers are the haunted house, tea cups, and the bumper cars. I also enjoy riding the Tidal Wave rollercoaster. When we are done riding the rides, my family and I go to one of the many arcades on the boardwalk. We collect tickets by playing games for three days and cash them in for a few prizes on the last day.
After all the entertainment, we walk back to our hotel room, only to be distracted by the sweet smell of junk food. My mom and I normally buy some chocolate covered bananas or strawberries. But that is not all you can do at night; we also have the option of visiting the Ripley’s Believe it or Not museum, go to a nightclub or bar, or just casually walk down the boardwalk. When we actually get back to the hotel, I take a coffee upstairs to my mom and tea for myself.
Every year, my family and I take a vacation to Ocean City, Maryland and we always enjoy it. In the future, we will do more exciting things like parasailing, walking the entire three mile boardwalk, visit Assateague Island and much more. That week in August is what I look forward to every year, to get away from the city and relax.
