Memorable Chicago - My Family Travels
chicago trip

My passion for travel is so great that I am planning to find a career that incorporates traveling as one of the job requirements. Even as a child when my parents would take my sister and I to new places to live, I would not mind it at all. My parents found it strange for me not to become uncomfortable when I would be introduced to a new environment. Until we came to my current home in Springdale, Arkansas is when my family became stable. I did not like the idea, but I was fortunate to have many opportunities that led me to keep enjoying my passion of travelling.  From winning an essay history contest that gave me the privilege to travel to states such as Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Maryland to being a member of the Northwest Arkansas Community College Upward Bound program and being able to travel to Chicago, Illinois for being a successful person while at the program, travel has been a major part of my life.

The travel experiences have been many and have all affected me in many positive ways.  A recent trip I took was to Chicago, Illinois with my peers of the Upward Bound program and I loved every second of it.  A day I truly enjoyed of the days  we stood there was when we went to visit the Navy Pier, a wonderful place in the city of Chicago where people are able to shop, eat, and enjoy the many attractions it provides.  Call it traditional, but the first stop that me and my girlfriends went to was the mall that the Navy Pier provided.  Arkansas is an urban area so I was fascinated to see so many stores and facilities placed into one building with four levels, the store Forever 21 even had two floors!

After being exhausted of walking up and down the polished halls and being in and out of the glass elevators we headed to the Family Pavilion to get ourselves something to eat. Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. was the name of the restaurant where I enjoyed a delicious meal of amazingly good portioned breaded shrimp and a side of salad. What added to my good experience in this particular restaurant was the outdoor patio it provided, the shade the tables had and the fresh summer breeze was soothing.  I could hear the joyous laughter of adults and kids equally at the patio and out on the sidewalks, and jazz music playing in the background adding more joy to the wonderful environment.

After satisfying our hunger we were ready to keep exploring the wonders the Navy Pier had waiting for us.  Walking in the middle of the multitude I had the chance to see the diversity of people also visiting the Pier, therefore encountering a diversity of little shops.  The attractions provided included concerts in the open, cirques, promenades, gardens, and a lakefront playground which had in it the largest wheel of fortune I have ever seen! I very much appreciated this scenery especially during the nightfall when the sky turns black and the attractions begin to magnificently shine with the colors of the rainbow.

To end the day we stood next to the seashore, breathing in the fresh breeze the waves created I closed my eyes and was proud to realize that great effort and will power can lead anyone to a successful life and thousands of opportunities that will have a positive long lasting effect in us.
