The film starred comedian Jim Varney and snowboarder Corey Haim, and is about a ski resort that hopes to capture a new market by introducing snowboarding to the slopes. There is a lot of silliness, some pretty girls, great snowboarding action and there are many funny scenes in which experienced skiers try to learn snowboarding.
From our very comfortable, slope-side bedroom I felt like we were living in the film, as we could see snowboarders and skiers whizz by, racing each other, falling and laughing. Although Mont Tremblant is a much better known, more glamorous and expensive resort about a half-hour away, Chantecler has a great deal of charm and enough variety of terrain to suit most families.
The resort’s food was terrific, and there is also fabulous food at every price range, within a short walk in the village of St. Adele. Non-skiers can drive to neighboring villages, where there are charming antique stores and flea markets on certain days.
For those visiting Chantecler outside of ski season, the resort offers a wide variety of warm weather activies such as golfing, go-karts, amusment parks and even a summer Santa meet and greet.
