At a recent gathering, staff from Cruise St Lawrence discussed the many ports available to cruise passengers on the St. Lawrence River in Quebec, Canada.
Many of you may be thinking that the province has Montreal and Quebec City — yet little else — to offer. Well, there is a lot more to see and do.
Major cruise lines such as Holland America and Silversea, originating from New York City and Boston, offer a porthole window on destinations as diverse as the Madeleine Islands and Baie-Comeau, and the famous Gaspe Peninsula.
Saguenay Fjord, Montreal, Quebec City, 13 species of marine mammals, national parks, UNESCO World Heritage sites, aboriginal villages, ecotourism, and other excursions all await you on this unique form of travel.
Whereas motor coach tours to the Quebec City region have declined in number, cruise passengers have grown in number. For 2011, several more ships will visit Quebec for the first time, including Cunard Line's newest cruise ship Queen Elizabeth.
More luxury lines are calling on Canada this year too, as seven additional ports are unveiled. There are expected to be a quarter of a million passengers experiencing this incredibly beautiful part of the planet during 2011.
Need more reason to consider a Canada cruise? Although motor coach tours are not especially family-friendly, cruises are very much so. This is yet another reason to take this mode of transport for a very special Canada family vacation.
Many opportunities to sail still await this summer and fall, time to take full advantage of the region’s stunning natural beauty. Not to mention the cruise values that can be found on the portal Cruise St Lawrence where Celebrity, Holland America, Cunard and 12 other cruise companies display their current cruise savings and upcoming offers.
Note that all the ships listed here call on Montreal or Quebec City — whether on weekend sails or round-the-world adventures — so you'll have a choice among a variety of wonderful family cruise itineraries.
As an example of one special, during the peak fall foliage season, Celebrity is offering 14-night September and October sailings round trip from Port Liberty, New Jersey for just $1499 for first two adults, plus special children's discounts on the 3rd and 4th bunk. (Celebrity sells these extra bunks in summer to families for up to 50% off). It's hard to imagine any other luxury vacation where transportation (by sea), lodging, meals and all activities are included for less than $100 per day.
Bon Voyage!
