In the Great Lakes State of Michigan, there is a city that was oncenicknamed the Lumber Queen of the Mid-West; this city is Muskegon. It obtained this nickname because of its resources, such as dense forests and Lake Michigan. Muskegon's fun attractions are not limited to only its environment, but also the annual carnival and a theme park.

The carnival takes place in Fruitport, a small village which lies just outside of Muskegon. The carnival is called Old Fashioned Days and offers fun for all ages. Operating from the week before Memorial day through the day of, the carnival offers many activities from a petting zoo to performances by local bands. There are also interactive theaters and pony rides just for the kids; these activities are sure to make happy memories for the little ones. Every year, over the lake that the carnival sits beside, there are two fireworks show that are always improving. This Memorial Day celebration concludes with a parade that features many community groups.

If you like the carnival rides, you'll love another attraction that is very close to Muskegon. This attraction is Michigan's Adventure, a theme park that features the Peanuts and has reasonable prices for so much fun. For only the cost of admission you get access to two fun parks; the dry park which holds the tallest and fastest wooden coasters in Michigan and the water park, with exciting wave pools and a relaxing Lazy River. The park also has many water slides including the Funnel of Fear; this water ride fits four people on one inflatable raft and sends them down a dark tunnel until they reappear in the light as they slide from one side to the other in the funnel. If a ride with the word "Fear" in its name is not for you, then you can always enjoy the Beach Party attraction; this party is complete with spray guns, net bridges and water slides. After getting soaked in the water park, you can always dry off on the Thunder Hawk, located in the dry park. The Thunder Hawk is a roller coaster that climbs 120 feet and reaches a top speed of 50 miles per hour; with barrel roles and 90-degree vertical climbs this coaster is a maximum thrill ride. With fun for everyone, Michigan's Adventure is a wonderful theme park to be enjoyed by the whole family.

Although the carnival and theme park are extraordinary opportunities for fun they are not what Muskegon is known for; that would be the beautiful environment. Muskegon lies right on the shore of Lake Michigan, which provides a scenic location to cool off in the summer heat and a place to view a beautiful sun set. With long, sandy beaches there will always be room for everyone. There is even a dog beach, so every member of the family can be included on your trip. Well-maintained playgrounds and restrooms are never far from the beach. If you enjoy fishing you are in luck, for there are many piers to choose from for great fishing opportunities. Not only does Muskegon's environment provide one of the five Great Lakes but also the Hoffmaster State Park. Hoffmaster has a plethora of nature trails available to everyone and many that are also welcome to dogs. The trails spotlight many of Michigan's native plant species, and signs are posted to offer information concerning the plants.
A trip to Muskegon will provide a great fun-filled experience for all members of the family.
