When many people think of Florida they think of the hot sun, beautiful beaches and natives walking around in tank tops, flip flops and shorts. They also believe that the only city of any importance in the sunshine state is Miami. Any time I tell anyone I live in Florida, the first question they ask is “Oh, do you live in Miami?” When I tell them which city I live in they respond by saying “Oh yeah! I know that place.”( Realizing there is more than one main city in South Florida.)
The city I am talking about is the beautiful city of Fort Lauderdale. Once a small trading fort, it is now a bustling metropolitan area. Thousands of tourists visit this amazing city per year. Yet many do not know what to begin to see and do here as the opportunities are vast. One of the many places to visit in Ft.Lauderdale is its museums. There are six museums in Ft.Lauderdale, with two of the museums, The Museum of Discovery and Science and the Ft.Lauderdale Museum of Art being among the two of the popular ones in South Florida. At the art museum one can see African tribal masks and works by William J. Glackens. The Museum of Science and Discovery is an interactive funhouse that allows one to learn about all aspects of science while totally enjoying oneself.
A major part of Florida is its majestic beaches and trendy restaurants. Instead of spending a lot of money on gas driving to the beach then trying to find a good restaurant, visitors can go to the very-well known Ft.Lauderdale Riverwalk also called Florida’s Most Beautiful Mile. The Riverwalk encompasses many boutiques, restaurants, shops and parks with picnic areas and gazebos. One popular eatery on the Riverwalk is the Tarpon Bend Food & Tackle restaurant where customers can always get the freshest catch of the day in a hip atmosphere. If you want a more upscale experience dine at the highly acclaimed Morton’s The Steakhouse where prices for each dish are on average are over $50.
Pristine beaches, a cornucopia of cultures and an entertainment rich environment makes Fort Lauderdale a well loved and visited city by tourists from all over the world. All this makes me proud to be a part of such a city.
