This Indiana Vintage Paradise Has More Than 65 Dealers Under One Roof

A former 1968 gas station now holds more than 65 antique dealers, a fine art gallery, and a black cat named Nosey who acts like the boss. I’m already curious about a place where the resident cat might have more authority than the owners.

The red-roofed building stretches long and low beside a winding Indiana highway. Vintage bicycles often line the front porch, and an old truck frequently waits out front like a greeter.

Inside, pine-paneled walls and exposed beams frame booth after booth of glassware, pottery, jewelry, signs, and primitives. Each booth has its own personality.

The whole thing feels like a tiny village where every house is for sale.

I’d probably walk in looking for one little treasure and come out with something I never knew I needed.

Wayne Ogle opened a gas station on this spot in 1968. Few people back then could have guessed what would happen to it next.

The building later became an antique shop called the Yankee Dollar. After that, it carried the name BC Frontier Mall for a while.

Then came April 1, 1995. That’s the day Cheri Clevenger bought the building and began shaping the Brown County Antique Mall you can visit today.

Antiques have been sold on this site for more than 50 years. That’s a long run for any shop, especially one that started out pumping gas.

Cheri has now spent around three decades here. She has even heard from grown-ups who first came through the doors as kids.

I like that kind of full-circle story. A child pokes around old toys, then returns years later with their own kids in tow.

The building itself carries that history quietly. You won’t need a tour guide to feel it, though a little background makes the visit richer.

Knowing where a place came from changes how you see it. Every creaky board suddenly seems to have a story worth hearing.

Some shops need a big neon sign. This one just needs a red roof and a vintage truck parked out front.

The building is long and low-slung, with a rustic look that fits the rolling Indiana hills around it. It feels right at home on the roadside.

Colorful vintage bicycles often decorate the front porch. Handcrafted wooden furniture frequently joins them, so the browsing starts before you reach the door.

Geodes are displayed out front too. Those rocks look plain on the outside but sparkle with crystals once split open.

Honestly, that’s a fitting symbol for antiquing. The good stuff often hides inside something that looks ordinary.

The vintage truck is the real scene-stealer, though. It works like a giant, rusty welcome sign that says old things live here.

Bring your phone camera. The porch, truck, and red roof make a cheerful backdrop for a road-trip photo.

Plenty of parking helps, too. Even motorcoaches and big groups are welcome, which tells you the lot can handle a crowd.

So keep your eyes open on the highway. Once you spot that roof, slow down and turn in.

Pine Walls and Wooden Beams Make Browsing Feel Cozy

Wood is everywhere once you step through the door. Pine-paneled walls and exposed beams give the Brown County Antique Mall a warm, cabin-like glow.

That setting matters more than you might think. Old glass and pottery look extra charming against honey-colored wood.

The layout winds like a labyrinth of vendor spaces. It feels a bit like strolling through a small village of tiny shops.

Despite the size, the space never feels overwhelming. The booths are well organized, so you can wander without getting frazzled.

Then there’s the smell. Think old wood, aged paper, and maybe a faint hint of decades-old perfume.

Antique lovers know that aroma instantly. It’s basically the official scent of treasure hunting.

I like how the mall manages to feel big and intimate at the same time. That’s a tricky balance, and it works here.

Wear comfy shoes and take your time. Rushing through a place like this is like speed-reading a mystery novel.

You’ll miss the clues. Slow down, look up, and peek into corners, because the best finds rarely sit front and center.

More Than 65 Dealers Means Endless Booths to Explore

Sixty-five dealers would be impressive on its own. Some sources put the count even higher, with 68 booths or around 72 dealers bringing in fresh items.

Either way, that’s a lot of personalities under one roof. Each booth reflects the taste of the person who stocked it.

One space might lean toward primitives and rustic tools. The next could sparkle with glassware, china, and delicate crystal.

That variety keeps your brain awake. You never quite know what style is waiting around the next corner.

The mall stretches across more than 10,000 square feet in three buildings. So yes, there’s room for plenty of surprises.

Don’t skip the two smaller buildings behind the main store. They’re easy to overlook if you’re not paying attention.

Here’s a smart strategy. Do one slow lap first, then circle back to the booths that caught your eye.

Snap photos of items you’re unsure about. It helps you compare pieces before deciding what comes home.

With this many dealers, patience pays off. The perfect find might be sitting in the very last booth you check.

Pyrex, Jadeite, and Cast Iron Will Tempt Every Kitchen Collector

Grandma’s kitchen called. It wants its mixing bowls back.

Vintage kitchenware is a big part of the fun here. Shelves can hold Pyrex, cast iron, Jadeite, crystal, and tumblers.

Jadeite is that soft, milky green glass that collectors adore. It looks like mint ice cream turned into dishes.

Old Pyrex brings cheerful colors and bold patterns. Many people still bake in it, so it’s both pretty and useful.

Cast iron is another classic. A well-seasoned pan can last for generations if you treat it kindly.

The mall stretches way past the kitchen, though. Look for antique furniture, jewelry, pottery, books, vintage clothing, and old advertising signs.

Primitives and artifacts add a rugged, farmhouse feel. There are even some quirky surprises, like taxidermy specimens.

Here’s a useful tip. Measure your shelves or cabinets before you go if you’re hunting for a specific piece.

Nothing stings like loving a hutch that won’t fit through your door. A little planning saves a lot of heartache.

Jewelry cases deserve a close look too. Small treasures hide easily among bigger displays.

An Art Gallery Hides Right Inside the Mall

Paintings and antiques make a natural pair. In 2006, the mall added an on-site art gallery to prove it.

Cheri’s son, Chris Powers, runs the gallery. It showcases and sells early Brown County, Indiana, American, and European paintings.

That Brown County focus is a big deal. The area is a historic Hoosier artists’ colony, famous for painters drawn to its hills.

So the gallery connects your shopping trip to local art history. You’re looking at the same kind of scenery artists loved long ago.

I believe this adds real depth to the visit. A rainy-day browse suddenly includes a mini museum.

The best part is that everything can go home with you. It’s a museum-like experience where the price tags are part of the charm.

Even if you’re not buying, spend a few minutes here. Notice the colors and how artists captured light on the hills.

Then look out the window afterward. The landscape will look a little different once you’ve seen it painted.

Art lovers and history buffs both get something special. That’s a rare bonus inside an antique mall.

Say Hello to Nosey, the Feline in Charge

Every great shop needs a manager. At the Brown County Antique Mall, that job seems to belong to a black cat named Nosey.

According to the owner, Nosey is the boss. He heads in and out all day and expects doors to open for him.

His favorite hangout is the warmly lit display cases. Apparently, glowing glass makes a perfect heated bed.

Honestly, who could argue with that logic? Nosey has clearly figured out the best seat in the house.

The human welcome is warm too. Owner Cheri sometimes offers cookies and coffee to shoppers.

That small gesture says a lot about the mood here. It feels more like visiting a friend’s place than a big store.

Staff members are known for being friendly and helpful. Ask questions about items, because they can often point you in the right direction.

Kids may find the cat as exciting as the antiques. Just remind them to let Nosey decide when he wants attention.

He’s the boss, after all. And bosses keep their own schedules.

Inventory here doesn’t sit still. Dealers keep bringing in new treasures, so the shelves shift all the time.

That’s great news for repeat visitors. The booth you checked last spring may look totally different by fall.

Seasonal decorations and themed goods rotate through the year. Expect Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas items when those holidays roll around.

Spring brings gardening finds. Summer leans toward vacation-themed goodies.

The owner also has bigger dreams. She hopes to grow the place into an antique village someday.

Two extra buildings currently used for storage could eventually hold furniture and estate items. That would make an already big mall even bigger.

Hours are generous too. The mall opens Monday through Saturday from 9 AM to 5:30 PM, and Sunday from 10 AM.

It’s open about 362 days a year. That’s nearly every day on the calendar.

Plan for several hours, or even a full day. Many shoppers underestimate how long the browsing takes.

Quick heads-up on facilities. Restrooms are outdoor porta potties, so dress for the weather in colder months.

Pair Your Shopping With Fall Leaves and Small-Town Charm

Location is a big part of the magic. You’ll find the mall at 3288 IN-46, Nashville, IN 47448.

It sits about three miles east of downtown Nashville. State Road 46 links Bloomington and Columbus, so it’s an easy stop on a road trip.

Nashville is a charming small town in the hills of Brown County, Indiana. Fall foliage here is famous for bright reds, oranges, and golds.

That makes autumn a gorgeous time to visit. The drive alone can feel like a painting come to life.

Brown County State Park is nearby for hiking and scenic overlooks. It’s a nice way to stretch your legs after hours of browsing.

Downtown Nashville adds local restaurants, art galleries, and shops. You could easily turn this into a full weekend.

Campers are close by too, with a KOA in the area. Antiquing pairs nicely with a few nights under the trees.

Here’s my advice. Shop first, then explore town, so your car isn’t packed before the big finds.

Leave a little trunk space either way. Brown County has a knack for sending people home with extra cargo.
