Spain's Mythical Place - My Family Travels

Terra Mitica offers theme park fun within a Mediterranean atmosphere.

Tucked into 260 acres along the Costa Blanca at Benidorm, about 140 kms from Valencia, Spain, is Terra Mítica (902 02 02 20), a “mythical land” where the gods of Fun must have been born.

This beautiful theme park boasts over 50 daily live shows and 29 attractions, including roller coasters, flume rides, spooky excursions through dark tunnels, fantasy landscaping, and infant rides. The well landscaped layout is grouped into the five civilizations which have dominated the Mediterranean: Egypt, Greece, Rome, Iberia and The Islands.

Living the legends which history thrives on, your family can try the Magnus Colossus, a coaster which rumbles at 57 mph in three seconds to a height of 54 meters. Take off your sunglasses for the interactive Labyrinth of the Minotaur, and put on your seatbelts for the freefall tower and extreme water chutes. Your toddlers will love the made-for-them Alucinakis infant coaster and the Mithos carousel, among many other mini-rides.

Our favorite aspect of the theme park is the historical detailing found in frescoed shops, colonnaded cafes, Moorish plazas and costumed staff. Just because management has been taken over by the North Carolina-based Paramount Parks, we say: Let the fun and games continue!

Details, Details
The operating hours are: daily from 10am to midnight (although some days the park is open until 1am) during June, July and August, and from 10am to 8pm during April, May and September. During the chillier months of October, November and December, the park is open on Saturday, Sunday and holidays.

We think you’ll need a few days to really enjoy Terra Mitica, so invest in a two-day pass, which costs €48/adult, € 35 for seniors 60+ and children 5-10 years; kids under 5 go free. One-day passes are approximately €10 less and an afternoon-only pass (if you are really in a rush!) is a little more than 50% of the day pass rates.
