The kid’s Camp Grande is centered in a huge indoor/outdoor facility with its own whale-shaped wading pool, playground, restaurant, game room, Movie Theater, and computer room. It offers full-day, half-day, and evening camp for 5-12s (for a fee) plus special kids’ classes in lei making, hula dancing, and pottery. Adults and teens can sample scuba diving, sailing, windsurfing, and boogie boarding. Daily fitness classes, both in and out of the water, and island excursions — submarine tours, mountain biking down the volcano, horseback rides, catamaran trips, and more — are easily arranged.

Of the more than 750 guest rooms, families will be most comfortable in the Lagoon Wing facing the Wailea Canyon Activity Pool; choose a ground floor room or suite and you’ll be just steps from water park action central. The poolside Volcano Bar has delicious American grill fare and is casual enough to grab a bite in your swimsuit. Although the beach is widely used, it’s never too crowded because of the drawing power of the pools.

The guest rooms, which include abundant space and an average of 640 square-feet, contain a tasteful blend of Western and Polynesian décor.  All rooms come with beautiful dark wood furnishings, a 37″ flat-screen television, oversized soaking tubs, marble vanities, and a convenient balcony.
