Grand Wailea in Maui has more than you and your family could want for golf, tennis, swimming pools, kid's camp, spa and almost anything else under the Hawaiian sun.
One of the liveliest resorts under the Hawaiian sun, the Grand Wailea is part elegant country club-style resort and part water play land. Fronting the spectacular Wailea Beach on 40 acres of lush, tropical gardens, this legendary Maui, Hawaii property offers luxurious accommodations. Guest will enjoy a full-service spa that contains bragging rights as the largest in Maui, three 18-hole championship golf courses, 11 tennis courts that include three lit for night play, 13 restaurants, bars and nightclubs, and a sprawling swimming pool complex — a veritable city on the sand.
Parents are welcome to linger over the exquisite world-class art collection, including regional Hawaiian artwork alongside Picasso, Léger and Warhol paintings. Kids will thoroughly enjoy the 2,000-foot-long river pool, with its seven separate pools that include a baby beach, seven waterslides, the world’s first water elevator, caves, waterfalls, and Jacuzzis.
The kid’s Camp Grande is centered in a huge indoor/outdoor facility with its own whale-shaped wading pool, playground, restaurant, game room, Movie Theater, and computer room. It offers full-day, half-day, and evening camp for 5-12s (for a fee) plus special kids’ classes in lei making, hula dancing, and pottery. Adults and teens can sample scuba diving, sailing, windsurfing, and boogie boarding. Daily fitness classes, both in and out of the water, and island excursions — submarine tours, mountain biking down the volcano, horseback rides, catamaran trips, and more — are easily arranged.
Of the more than 750 guest rooms, families will be most comfortable in the Lagoon Wing facing the Wailea Canyon Activity Pool; choose a ground floor room or suite and you’ll be just steps from water park action central. The poolside Volcano Bar has delicious American grill fare and is casual enough to grab a bite in your swimsuit. Although the beach is widely used, it’s never too crowded because of the drawing power of the pools.
The guest rooms, which include abundant space and an average of 640 square-feet, contain a tasteful blend of Western and Polynesian décor. All rooms come with beautiful dark wood furnishings, a 37″ flat-screen television, oversized soaking tubs, marble vanities, and a convenient balcony.
Guest can also enjoy Ho’olei, a spectacular 2009 addition to Grand Wailea. These private luxury town homes are congregated within a gated community, offering deluxe three-bedroom, three-and-a-half bath homes with modern kitchens, private elevators, attached garages, personal concierge services, and exclusive access to all the amenities provided by the resort.
