Find out if the exclusive Sunset Key Guest Cottages off the coast of Key West make the grade for those seeking privacy and service.
One destination can equal two distinctively different vacation experiences when you stay on a quiet island a short ride away from big city excitement. This resort has golden sand beaches, warm water, and a relaxed and restful tropical-island atmosphere. And it’s just a few minutes away from high-energy cosmopolitan fun. Settle into your beach chair with a good book one day, and spend the next day exploring the action!
Each morning a breakfast basket containing bagels, muffins, fresh-squeezed orange juice, and a newspaper is delivered to the wraparound verandah of your cottage on this completely private island, 500 yards offshore from lively Mallory Square in Key West. Flower-lined walkways (no cars are allowed) connect your cottage with the other parts of the eight-acre resort — there’s a glamorous zero-entry swimming pool, a second pool and pool bar; a sandy beach with cabanas, lounge chairs, and a protected swimming area; a water-front restaurant; personali chef service; tennis courts; and an 18-hole putting green. These are just a few of the assets which earned it a place in Travel & Leisure’s “World’s Best” awards issue.
Pre-teens and teenagers can be free to safely explore on their own. They’re sure to find the library of books, videos and CDs, and the ice cream and candy selections at the “marketessan” to their liking. Parents will prefer the sophisticated delicatessen’s gourmet food, wine, and beer selection.
Thirty-seven Victorian-styled cottages with big picture windows have two or three bedrooms, spacious living and dining areas, and full kitchens that can be prestocked with a grocery list specified by guests. Rooms are saturated with fresh yellows, bright blues, and creamy whites, and furnishings are plush and sophisticated. It’s a comfortably ritzy place that combines the privacy of your own home with all the services and amenities of a first-class resort.
Another world away, yet only 10 minutes by private 24-hour launch, Key West bustles with restaurants, street performances, shops, museums, and nightclubs. Since July of 2006, Sunset Key Cottages have been affiliated with the Westin Key West Resort & Marina (formerly a Hilton), where guests leave their cars and check in. Along with the mainland property, they will be undergoing a two-year, multi-million dollar renovation suited to the Westin brand.
