Since vineyard-hopping is an adult pleasure, where should you stay with your under-age family members while visiting the wine country?
What’s the best way to enjoy a sublime adult experience if you’re touring the Wine Country with kids? Writes Leslie Kopietz, of St. Paul, Minnesota: “Our family traveled to Napa Valley, Califonria and stayed in the Embassy Suites Napa. Love those breakfasts! We thought it was great because there were no crowds, great weather and a relaxed pace. The best thing was the variety of activities; the worst thing was the drive through downtown San Francisco for our morning flight home. We recommend you choose kid-friendly wineries (Sterling is one) and alternate winery stops with other sites, such as the Petrified Forest, the Geyser, etc. to keep the kids happy, too.”
Welcoming accommodations in California’s Napa Valley wine country range from small local inns (some of which won’t allow children under 16) to national chains and large resorts with fun-for-the-family facilities. Then, of course, there are the motels with windmills made famous by “Sideways.” A few samplings of each type of lodging follow:
