Media Only, March 7, 2005: Family Travel Forum’s Editor Kyle McCarthy Receives First Place Internet Journalism Award From Peers

New York, NY – Family Travel Forum (FTF), the leading publisher of family travel websites, congratulates editor-in-chief Kyle McCarthy for her recognition by the North American Travel Journalists Association.  Ms. McCarthy was awarded NATJA’s First Prize: Best Travel Article Written for the Internet for “Family Pride Coming Out,” a special report about same sex couples family travel published at www.FamilyTravelForum.com.

According to NATJA’s executive director Elizabeth H. Beshear, nearly 500 entries from publications including National Geographic, SmartMoney, Travel + Leisure, inflight and AAA magazines, and others were screened by judges from the School of Art & Media Studies and the School of English, Philosophy & Humanities at Fairleigh Dickinson University.

“We are delighted that Ms. McCarthy’s work has been recognized by such distinguished judges and NATJA,” said FTF publisher John Manton. “As a founding partner, Ms. McCarthy was responsible for FTF’s print newsletter from 1997-2002 and, as online editor, oversees all the sites’ cruise, resort, health, drive-to and bargain travel columns, as well as features from contributing editors and freelancers.”

Ms. McCarthy adds, “Editing four websites doesn’t give me as much time to do the reporting and writing – let alone the travel – I’d like, so I am especially delighted that my study of travel options for lesbian and gay families was selected for this honor.”
