“All I need now is for Antonio Banderas to show up on a shiny black stallion.” How many times have I said that to myself, while studying my toenail polish from a chaise lounge on a pristine beach along Mexico’s Riviera Maya?
Ironically, I was discussing Banderas most recently at a Riviera Maya hotel opening. Praising the star of “The Legend of Zorro” as well as the kids’ favorite “Spy Kids” and “Shrek” series (in which he plays Puss in Boots) to a colleague, a young Mexican woman next to us scoffed, “Oh, you gringos think he’s so handsome. He looks just like my mailman!”
Nonetheless, the Iberostar Hotels & Resorts group is gambling that millions of other women around the world will find the Spanish-born Banderas a very attractive spokesperson. He has been at the Iberostar resort in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo this week with his family to promote his new advertising campaign for the hotel. Iberostar launched the three-year campaign during an international press conference at the brand’s Grand Hotel ParaÃso in Riviera Maya, Mexico.
The campaign focuses on the concept, “On Vacation Everyone is a Star” and, in our experience, Iberostar is really great at treating their guests that way. Especially their young ones, who enjoy supervised kids clubs at all locations.
Banderas, also an ambassador for UNICEF, travels extensively for his work and his hobbies. He notes, “This partnership has developed in a very natural way: Iberostar is a brand with a large international presence and corresponding prestige. I share their values, their philosophy, and, of course, their understanding of vacations, which at the end of the day is most important.”
Banderas, interviewed at the resort, told Travel Agent magazine that his family was pleased to be there. When asked about his wife, actress Melanie Griffith (“Nip/Tuck,” “Lolita,” and “Working Girl” among many others) and their teen daughter Stella, he admitted that they were not at dad’s press conference because they were out and about enjoying the resort and its many facitlies.
