In a surprise announcement that brought incredulous delight to audience members at the popular “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” Ms. O herself told her fans that they would all be going to Australia this Christmas so that she could broadcast the opening of her 25th season from there.
In conjunction with Tourism Australia, “The Oprah Winfrey Show” will produce at least two episodes plus the 25th season premiere on location.
And will Ms. O travel without her fans? No way. Audience members attending the show’s farewell season premiere episode on September 14th were given two surprises: special guest star John Travolta, and an invitation by Ms Winfrey to come with her to Australia, all expenses paid.
Tourism Australia’s partnership with “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” will see Ms Winfrey, her correspondents, and 300 of Oprah’s most loyal viewers travel on an eight-day, seven-night trip to Australia during December. The “Oprah” show cameras will be on hand to capture their journeys around Australia as well as bring everyone together at the steps of the Sydney Opera House — or as it will be known that week the “Oprah House” — for a spectacular show featuring Australian talent and special guests. Episodes will air first in the US in early 2011 and then roll out to other global markets.
“The Oprah Winfrey Show” reaches a global audience across 145 countries and the partnership between Tourism Australia and “The Oprah Winfrey Show” will enable Australia’s many wonderful attractions LINK to be showcased to audiences worldwide as part of the shows. Qantas Airways, Tourism New South Wales, the Sydney Opera House, Tourism Victoria, Tourism Queensland, R.M. Williams and Network 10 are also partners in the venture, a remarkable marketing coup for a country that was showcased to great success in the 2009? Sydney Olympics.
