In a recent survey by TRUSTe, an internet privacy company, 10% of parents admitted to secretly logging in to their child’s Facebook account. In the same survey 72% of parents said they monitor their child’s online activity and 85% check their child’s Facebook page at least once a week.
The digital capacities of this decade have far surpassed the means of traditional media, so it may seem reasonable that parents fear for their children’s security online. To ease the troubles of digital media, why not let your kids explore a more traditional media done in an entirely modern way?
Bluewater Productions Inc. has taken the traditional comic book and fused it with the fame of celebrities.
The independent producer of comic books, graphic novels and young adult books has a series called “Fame” which chronicles the lives of celebrities in a comic book format. Kids take to them instantly, making these simple books a wonderful way to encourage students to keep on reading outside of class.
Bluewater’s newest celebrity character is Justin Bieber. Among the top ten Twitter trends for 2010, Justin Bieber has become more than a teen pop star.
This young icon, about to release his film, “Never Say Never,” is featured in his very own comic book (which has already sold out), and in 2011 will be featured in a full-length graphic novel. The book, titled Fame: Justin Bieber: The Graphic Novel will chronicle the humble upbringing and subsequent launch to stardom of this Ontario, Canada native.
Written by Tara Broeckel Ooten and illustrated by Claudio Avella, the graphic novel will be released in March 2011. The book can be pre-ordered at sites such as Amazon or from bookstores like Barnes & Noble and Borders. In March, the book will also be sold at Wal-Mart retailers.
The suggested retail price is $7.99, a bargain way to keep your children off their Facebook page and strengthen their love of the written word.
