Julianne Moore is many things in life: a redhead, an actress, a mother and a children’s book author. Her first book, Freckleface Strawberry, is about a young girl who struggles with insecurities, namely having freckles and red hair. Moore says the book’s storyline has been influenced by a childhood when she was taunted and called the book’s namesake.
While several actresses have dabbled in children’s book writing, Moore seems to have done something right. Not only has she had some great reviews for the book, but now the story is being set to stage in an off-Broadway production by Manhattan Movement and Arts Center (MMAC).
The musical is proud to be a show for the whole family. The 70-minute show not only provides music and dancing, but also promises some very important life lessons. Accompanied by a full range of character personalities, Freckleface Strawberry slowly figures out that her differences are what make her special.
The show is playing at the New World Stages in New York City. Tickets can be purchased through the Freckleface website or Telecharge.com where you can check for the holiday schedule and more information. And we’ve just heard that they’re selling extra tickets through March 27th at 40% off, if you buy before February 1st from www.BroadwayOffers.com and use the promotional code FSBOFF1210.
Freckleface Strawberry, the book, and its sequel Freckleface Strawberry and the Dodgeball Bully can be purchased through Amazon. Illustrations are done by Leuyen Pham.
Julianne Moore lives in New York City with her husband and two children: Caleb her 12-year old son and Liz her 8-year old daughter.
The 49-year old actress is still keeping busy when not penning books for kids. She recently starred in The Kids Are All Right and received a Golden Globe nomination for her role as a lesbian mother in the film.
In 2011, she will be featured as the model for the new Talbots campaign. Moore was also a model for a recent Bulgari advertisement in which the middle-aged beauty was photographed nude.
