Hannah Montana Disney star, Miley Cyrus, hopped a plane to Haiti last week to do some good for the Caribbean island nation. Haiti suffered horrendous damage and loss of life during the magnitude 7.0 earthquake that occurred January 12, 2010.
In the past year, islanders have continued to suffer from psychological trauma and diseases such as cholera resulting from the poor living conditions. International aid organizations have struggled to get food and supplies to those in need outside the capital of Port au Prince.
Thanks in part to rap star Wyclef Jean, a Haiti native, the relief efforts of celebrities visiting the country have been ongoing. Last year we reported that John Travolta was personally flying supplies down to the Caribbean to help Haitian civilians.
According to The Hollywood Gossip, the 18-year old Miley Cyrus has already been involved with Sean Penn’s The J/P Haitian Relief Organization. This time, however, she is aiding the country with the Starkey Hearing Foundation, an organization that focuses on the process of helping deaf children get supplies that they need.
Miley is no stranger to helping the damaged people of Haiti. Last year she released a single and donated all the proceeds to the Disasters Emgerency Committee and the Helping Haiti campaign. Additionally, she auctioned off the dress she donned to the Grammys in 2010 to the benefit the American Red Cross and its work in Haiti.
