Wentworth Inn, Luxury on the New Hampshire Seacoast - My Family Travels

If your anything like my two teenaged kids, traveling with your parents can sometimes be a little too close for comfort. Sharing a room with the entire family is what we can afford, but tight quarters can be a challenge for our family to negotiate. We often end vacations feeling like we need a vacation from each other.

But on a recent family vacation to New Hampshire, we found the right balance of togetherness at the Wentworth Inn, outside of Portsmouth. Though the four of us shared a room, the hotel’s public spaces where so spacious and comfortable that my kids chose to spend most of their time outside of our room.

The Wentworth Inn is a good place to roam, as glitzy ballrooms and blazing fires can be found throughout. Its the kind of place where you can relax by a fire in winter, and find a friendly fellow guest to play cards with. They liked the jazz singer who sang breathy tunes in the hotel’s lounge each evening. Although it is pretty fancy, my kids never felt that it was formal.  Plus, the indoor pool and jacuzzi were a big draw, and a great place for my kids to meet other young guests.

We visited the Wentworth Inn in winter, but we all appreciated the gorgeous coastal location of the hotel.  The hotel has its own private marina, and we thought it would be fun to come in warmer weather to watch the boats dock.  The outdoor pool was empty in December, but we could imagine splashing up a a storm in summer.

The Wentworth Inn is located just a few miles outside of Portsmouth.  My kids were won over by Portsmount’s charms.  It is a great place to stroll, shop and eat.  There is a good assortment of familiar chain-stores and independently owned shops.  It has a great cafe scene, and we sampled many great cakes and pastries.
