I have traveled across most of the United States and have had the chance to see many of the spectacular sights that it has to offer. I am the passenger on my boyfriend’s truck that travels from coast to coast. Although there are some truly beautiful places, one of them stands out the most in my memory: Niagara Falls. I used to think that this place was just overrated and never really understood what people were making such a big deal out of it for, until I saw it with my own eyes. We had a delivery that allowed us to travel near the falls, so we decided to stop by and see what it was all about. It was just before the sun set, which made the scenery even better. It was literally breath taking. I had never been more excited in my life to have seen something that miraculous. We feel in love with it so much that we decided to come back the following day so we could explore the area in further detail. There was much to learn about this fabulous place, which made it well worth the extended stay.

On the second day that we visited the falls we soon discovered that there was a lot more to it than just the falls. This place has a lot of history. There are actually three sets of falls: the American Falls, which is along the United States border, the Bridal Veil Falls, in the middle, and the Horseshoe Falls, along the Canadian border. From the island that you can view the falls from, you can see directly across to the Canadian border. The island has many statues and plaques dedicated to the Native Americans that once inhabited the area. The falls date back to the ice age and finally settled into the form that we know today when a whirlpool was created. Its extensive history has made an amazing sight for many people to see today.

Our experience was a positive one and we will take the memories with us for the rest of our lives. Although it was cold and nearing dark when we arrived it was well worth it. The second day that we visited was bitter outside as well. But I do believe we went at a good time. It was fall and the leaves were bright orange and red. You could hear the falls from anywhere you went near the area and there were many side rapids that were a sight in themselves. There was not a whole lot of people there at the time, which allowed us to spend a decent amount of time sight seeing. I enjoyed every minute of it and would love to go back whenever possible.

I personally learned a lot from this visit. I learned that it’s never wise to underestimate anything. I never would have thought that it would have been anything like it actually is. Going into things with an open mind is what, I think, allowed me to enjoy my time there even more. I would hope that anyone who goes there could endure the same experience I had.
