Last night a co-worker and I were invited to attend the nominations party for the upcoming CMT Country Music Awards. From what I gather from my first couple of weeks living in New York City, most people out here aren’t too into the whole country music thing. I grew up in various different cities in the Midwest like Dallas, Denver, and Salt Lake City, so naturally I’m a huge country music fan.
With the notion that I was the only country music fan in this part of the country, I was surprised to see the large crowd gathered at the Highline Ballroom where the show took place.
Highlights of the night included free beverages(I enjoyed a Coke and a Gingerale), tasty appetizers served by individuals walking around with trays, and, of course, great country music.
The event was basically a concert performed by Laura Bell Bundy, a newcomer on the country scene who released her first album in early 2010 with Mercury Records Nashville. She and Evan Farmer, the host for CMT’s Top 20 Countdown, started out the show by revealing the final nominees for the 2010 CMT Country Music Awards.
Here are some of the nominees.
Miranda Lambert, Taylor Swift, Reba McEntire, and Carrie Underwood are all gunning for female video of the year, and for male video of the year the contenders include Toby Keith, Tim McGraw, Jason Aldean, Billy Currington, and Keith Urban.
Artists like Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, and Lady Antebellum join others as nominees for video of the year.
Kid Rock will host the actual awards ceremony on June 9, which he commented on saying, “… All I can promise is I will be awesome.”
