We don’t usually ask our kids to sing for their supper, but here’s a fun occasion where they can eat and sing — not with their mouths open, of course! New York’s posh Langham Hotel at 400 Fifth Avenue near 37th Street hosts a musical sing-a-long brunch every Sunday from February 22 through May 31, 2015, at noon. Count on great food, favorite tunes and a lot of laughs to entertain grandparents… or whoever else will enjoy seeing the kids perform.
“Tunes with Tina” returns to the elegant Measure Lounge, where Chef David and his team guarantee a menu of kid-friendly favorites. Your fussy eaters will find delicacies such as a Short Stack with Nutella & Banana, or Chicken & Waffles (no, they’re not on the adults menu, but it sounds great, too.)
But you’ve come for Tina deVaron, the acclaimed singer, songwriter, and jazz pianist who performs everything from pop hits to Disney Classics. She’s great at encouraging interaction and pulling the hidden talent from the shyest little ones. Families also love that she will personalize numbers, creating them on the spot for the kids she meets. “ I always tell parents to have their camera phone ready,” she adds.
On selected dates throughout the season, according to a Langham spokesperson, Ms. deVaron will present Broadway Sundays, when she will welcome a professional Broadway performer to join her at the piano. Past guests have included Ashley Blanchet from “Annie”; Lisa Helmi Johansen (and her puppets) from “Avenue Q”; and Jenn Collela from “If, Then.” The names of the performers for Broadway Sundays for 2015 will be available soon, and their special brunches will begin in March, This intimate venue is an ideal place to take college students on spring break who have an interest in Broadway careers.
Although Measure doesn’t normally take reservations, guests who wish to book a space for “Tunes with Tina” can use OpenTable.com or call 212/695-4005. Brunch is served as a prix-fixe option, at $40 for adults, and $20 for children under 12.
And you can also indulge in an overnight songfest as many of the Langham New York’s 214 spacious guestrooms and suites can accommodate the whole family. The posh Family Getaway Package includes, among other features, a $50 credit at Measure Lounge that can be applied to Tunes with Tina or any other meal for the family.
