Interested in seeing the world, meeting new friends and exploring different cultures? Hostelling International is hosting a two-week learning program in Egypt that will include four very lucky American participants.
As most students know, Hostelling International USA (HI USA) is a non-profit member organization founded on, and we quote, “an enduring belief in the power of travel to foster a deeper understanding of people, places, and the world around.”
As America’s leading hostel brand, HI USA hosts more than 1 million overnights annually for guests from 100+ countries. The exciting exchange program that supports their mission, IOU Respect, will be held this summer at HI hostels in Cairo and Ismaila, Egypt.
Who Gets Chosen to Participate in the Exchange Program?
The intensive educational exchange program is open to 18 to 23-year-olds from Egypt, France, Germany, Lebanon, Tunisia, and the United States. Accepted students will engage in a mix of facilitated dialogue sessions, team-building project work, and group outings and activities.
How do students benefit?
- “When I departed I left behind 30 close friends who inspire me to be a better person. I have a better understanding of myself, my community, and my world because of IOU Respect.” Jacob, graduate of 2015 program in Paris, France.
What Will I Do during the IOU Respect Exchange Program?
“IOU Respect breaks down barriers and helps participants build lasting relationships on a foundation of appreciation, respect, and understanding,” says HI USA CEO Russ Hedge.
The program is designed to increase participants’ knowledge of other cultures, develop their skills for intercultural communication, and foster attitudes that promote mutual understanding and tolerance.
Given their long experience as multicultural hosts, we know that the communal lifestyle of the hostel setting is sure to enhance the experience and friendships made.
