Top areas to explore would be Marina, JLT, JBR and if someone is a fan of shopping then one would find extravagant options there with World’s top brands present in Dubai Mall and Emirates Mall. I recommend you (and everybody who visits Dubai for the first time) to check out the following places:
Burj Khalifa (especially astonishing is a view of Dubai from Burj Khalifa after the sunset)
Dubai Fountain (it is the world’s largest choreographed fountain system)
Miracle Garden (It is a flower garden featuring over 50 million flowers and 250 million plants)
The Global village (It consists of a pavilion of almost 90 countries where visitors get tastes of their culture, food and can also buy products – you can find some of the best places with Indian food there)
The Lost Chambers Aquarium (This is UAE’s largest aquarium. The other notable aquarium is at Dubai Mall)

These are the destinations for a 2-3 days trip. You should also keep in mind that the most convenient way to move from one place to another in the UAE is to rent a car. Public transport is not designed for tourist needs here. You can choose some global providers like https://www.kayak.com/ or local platforms like https://dubairentacar.ae/

And the best time to visit Dubai is in September and April when it is sunny but not too hot. In other months an untrained tourist has a too high risk of getting sunstroke.
