Hey fellow riders! ?????
I’m planning a motorbike trip to Upper Mustang and could really use some firsthand advice from those who’ve actually done it. The internet makes it sound like an epic adventure (which I’m sure it is), but I want the real story—the good, the bad, and the dusty!
1. The Basics
Best time to go? I’ve heard May-Oct is ideal, but how’s the weather really in September?Permit process: That $500 fee hurts…was it straightforward to arrange? Any tips to make it smoother?
Bike choice: Is a Royal Enfield Himalayan the only real option, or could a well-maintained 500cc classic Bullet handle it?
2. The Ride Itself
How technical does it get? I’m comfortable on rough roads, but are there any “oh crap” sections I should know about?Navigation: Are the trails well-marked, or is a GPS/guide essential?
Fuel situation: Where are the last reliable fuel stops before entering Mustang?
3. Survival Tips
Altitude: How did you handle the climb to Lo Manthang (3,840m)? Any acclimatization must-dos?Mechanical issues: Common bike problems on this route? Must-carry spare parts?
Budgeting: Beyond permits, how much cash should I carry for food/lodging?
4. The Rewards
Most unforgettable moment? What made the whole thing worth it for you?Hidden gems: Are there any off-the-radar stops I shouldn’t miss?
Photography tips: What are the best spots for those epic bike-with-mountains shots?
