During the summer of 2012, I embarked upon an amazing trip that I will truly never forget. My family and I took a breathtaking cruise to three beautifully enchanting islands that we really enjoyed.
Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas is the best ship I have ever stepped foot on. Every second we were on the ship, we were engaged in some type of fun activity. There was rock climbing, mini golf, zip lining, boogie boarding, surfing, ice skating, basketball, table tennis, swimming, and even a teen chill spot where we met some great people. There were also game shows, comedians, Broadway plays, diving shows, ice skating shows, and a huge 3-D movie theater. There was no way anyone could ever be bored while staying on this ship.
Each setting on the boat presented a different theme to enjoy. My new friends and I spent a day at the carnival together. We enjoyed unlimited donuts, tons of candy, and a great selection of ice cream at the Ice Cream Parlor. The carnival also had a huge carousel that we all rode countless amounts of times. Las Vegas was also featured on the ship through the Casino Royale. This casino was filled with bright colors, loud jingles, and lively people. Those who were age appropriate had a great time. Although these features were very impressive, I must say that my favorite facet aboard the ship was the recreated Central Park of New York City. This walkway was drenched in greenery, cafés, and it was the perfect scene to watch the stars with a significant other. (; Royal Caribbean did an astounding job in capturing different scenes for the satisfaction of their guests.
The variety that was provided in the food choice was astonishing and greatly appreciated. If one preferred to eat heavily, they could enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, frozen yogurt, pizza and much more at the Wipe Out Café, Johnny Rockets, and Sorrento’s Pizza. Those who wanted lighter food choices could enjoy salads, fruits, soups, and sandwiches in places like the Park Café and the Solarium Bistro. During dinner at the Opus Dining Room, each person was treated like royalty. Everyone came dressed to impress and had the opportunity to eat a delicious meal. I personally loved all the food, not to mention the Cupcake Cupboard where I ate a red velvet cupcake every day. Every food shop the ship had to offer was great and tasty.
While living in luxury on this exotic ship, we docked in Nassau, Bahamas, St. Maarten, and St. Thomas. Each island was captivating and rich with heritage, culture, and color. The land was beautiful and full of life and so were the people. They were so driven to share their culture with the world. The islanders taught me to understand how the environment supports them and how they use the land not only as a form of stable living, but as a place of healing and growth. Each person had so much love and passion for their home even though it wasn’t much. After traveling to all the islands, I came to appreciate the little things I have and realized that nothing is worth having if I don’t acknowledge the true essence of it.
