Imagine a tropical paradise just a few steps away from your door. For me this is a reality and not just a dream. I live in one of the most magical places in the world, Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. While I call this place home, many others flock to this amazing place throughout the year as an escape from their everyday lives. If enjoying the beaches is your thing, Aguadilla has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The brilliant shades of blue water contrast with the surrounding green mountains. Whether you want to catch some rays just for relaxing on the beach or surf the waves on our famous Surfer’s Beach, Aguadilla is the place to be.

The name Aguadilla is a unique one and comes from the Indian word for garden. Over the years, the city has quickly grown into a favorite for tourists and is one of the surfing capitals of the world. In the past, Aguadilla has hosted the World Surfing Championships on the shores of nearby beaches such as Surfer Beach and Wilderness Beach. However, if you are interested in enjoying the water in ways other than surfing, Aguadilla also offers activities such as kite surfing, snorkeling, and scuba diving.

If you need a break from the water, you can enjoy a round of golf nearby the historic Punta Borinquen Lighthouse ruins. A trip to Aguadilla would not be complete without a visit to the Cascadas Water Park, the largest theme park in all the Caribbean. If the heat and humidity are getting to you, you can escape at the region’s only ice skating complex located in Aguadilla. And the outdoors activities are very exciting, as well. Aguadilla offers many excellent hikes and adventures here or in the cities nearby, like Moca, Rincon, and Isabela.

Now if you are a fan of culinary arts, our tropical food talks for itself. Aguadilla is home to Mr. Mofongo Restaurant, where diners can enjoy a Puerto Rican delight called Mofongo. Mofongo is Carribean style mashed potato made from plantains and served with chicken stock. Also, restaurant such as Gustito Supreme, Restaurante Marina, and Molinas Restaurant serve the freshest seafood possible. All throughout Aguadilla, visitors and residents can stop along side the road to purchase different dishes such as tripletas, carne guisada, and pinchos of chicken, shrimp, and pork. Afterwards, you can wash all this food down with a refreshing cocos frios, also known as cold coconut.

If you want to learn about our art and culture, come visit us and we will welcome you. Aguadilla has a variety of places to stay, from luxury hotels to paradores (similar to a bed and breakfast). Many hotels such as the Faro Inn Suites and Cielomar offer majestic views of the beach and harbor. If you prefer to stay in the historic section, then the Courtyard by Marriot Aguadilla is your best bet.

So, learn for yourself that there is no better place to visit than Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Dare to visit us and you will see why Puerto Rico does it better!!!
