Afghanistan, when that country comes in a conversation, people tend to think of hardship, bombs, terrorists, and poverty. Of course there is poverty in Afghanistan, secret groups of terrorists, and hardship is something almost everyone faces in Afghanistan. I was born in Afghanistan, but specifically, in the blossoming modern-style capital, Kabul. There are those who are scared of visiting Kabul, then there’s those who are daring or sentimental, and visit Kabul for months. Kabul is somewhere people should visit because it is most likely going to change their perspective on life and it’s a beautiful, interesting city in general.

When tourists first get to Kabul, I would want to show them Shahrake Hajinabi, City of Haji Nabi. First impressions are always what counts and this area of Kabul is guaranteed to change your view of Kabul, Afghanistan. Shahrake Hajinabi is an area that has the most beautiful mansions built, when tourists see these mansions, they will know that things have changed in Afghanistan. The mansions have gorgeous color schemes, three stories, and an elegant roof-top balcony. Architecture was always great in Afghanistan and Shahrake Hajinabi will show tourists the true beauty of Kabul. There is a little park nearby that is comfortable and unique, it shows the whole city.

Kabul is well known for its unique, interesting, and beautiful sights for tourists. A historical place tourists should definitely visit is Darul Aman, the white house of the king, which is now destroyed but remains standing. Darul-Aman was ruined during the war and is now a sight for tourists because of its beauty and significance. Another spot tourists should visit is Lake-e-Qargha. Qargha is an area of green fields with a grand lake. Qargha is memorable because of it’s Fair rides, kayaking, boat rides, and horse back riding. Bagh-e-Babur is one of the most favored of the tourist spots in Kabul. Bagh-e-Babur is a historical park that was made back when Babur was the ruler of Afghanistan. Bagh-e-Babur was made by Babur himself and there is a sign with a direct quote from Babur himself, “If heaven is anywhere on Earth, it can be found in Kabul.” Bagh-e-babur has three trees that has been there for longer than 100 years and this is one of the many reasons why many go there. When Babur died in India, as he requested, his body was buried in Bagh-e-babur.

When visiting Kabul, there is much to taste and listen to. Master Burger in Sar-e-Karez serves the most delicious American style burgers in town, you pay 140 rupas for one large burger, fries, and a drink; Master Burger is worth the money. Almost every restaurant in Kabul serves Kabob and Kabuli Palaw (afghan style rice), either way, try one or the other! Besides afghan food, Sheer Yakh (Ice Cream) is served on almost every block and tastes delicious. Famous afghan singers’ tourists should listen to are Valy, Ahmad Zahir, Shabnam Suraya, and Bashir Hamdard. However, out of all the singers, Ahmad Zahir is the most well known singer and many tourists even visit his grave.
