Kenyetta Jackson A trip to Bomb-mingham Bomb-mingham the beautiful is what my home town use to be called. I live in Birmingham, Alabama, home of some of the most historic places in the United States. From marches and boycotts to breath taking artwork, Birmingham has a lot to offer to any tourist of any age. When you come to Birmingham there are countless places you can visit, and many breath taking sites to be seen. For example if iron and steel fascinate you, you will mostly be interested in visiting the Vulcan statue located north of down town Birmingham. The Vulcan represents the iron and steel manufactures that the city is famous for producing. Sloss furnace would also contribute to the steel plants. The city was once called bomb-mingham because it was main location in the south where segregation and racism took place intensely. To remind ourselves and others of what many African Americans and other victims of segregation had to go through, the Civil Rights museum was created. This is the first place I would show a tourist because; the museum is directly across the street from Kelly Ingram Park and 16th Street Baptist Church. Kelly Ingram Park is a wonderful and education park to visit. 50 years ago African American men and women were hosed down and bitten by police dogs for protesting and fighting (vocally) for what they believed in at that park. All throughout the park there are educational signs and speeches engraved on the statues and sidewalk to inform people on what took place in 1963. The same year four little girls were killed at 16th Street Baptist church by a bomb that went off during Sunday school, early one Sunday morning. This is how Birmingham got the name Bomb-mingham. The church is set up like a museum and it is a great location for tourist to come visit. Once I showed off some of the more historical features of my hometown, I would take them somewhere fun, like a baseball game Birmingham is home of the Barons and the UAB Blazers! The Birmingham Barons are a major league baseball team. Their brand new 2013 home stadium is located next to a brand new park called Rail Road Park. It is no more than two years old. Once the tourist leave the park they will have to dine on some delicious cuisines of the south. The Cracker Barrel is one of the friendliest and scrumptious places you can eat. There are many beautiful places to see, like the Birmingham botanical garden; home to hundreds of beautiful flowers and plants. The garden is located across the street from the Birmingham Zoo, where dozens of wild life animals live. You could not compare this city to any other city in the world. I would definitely recommend Birmingham to any tourist looking for a fun vacation.
