One cannot have a discussion about Rochester Hills, Michigan without bringing up the town’s charming, historic downtown. The downtown area is undoubtedly Rochester Hills’ crown jewel; people of all ages come in droves to enjoy this beautifully preserved historic area which boasts a thriving shopping and restaurant scene. For lovers of traditional American fare, Lipuma’s—an always bustling hot dog restaurant—and Red Knapp’s—renowned for its shakes and burgers—always hits the spot.  For those seeking more refined dining experiences, gourmet restaurants like the Meeting House and the Rochester Chop House should satisfy their needs. While the downtown restaurant scene is undoubtedly a huge draw for residents and tourists, the impressive variety of shops and stores attracts people to the area as well. Visitors to the downtown area can dress themselves in the finest tuxedos—which can be purchased in Molnar’s Tuxedo—or in Western-type clothing, which can be found in the Arizona Saddlery. However, attractions in Rochester Hills are not just limited to the downtown area.

While many suburban communities are cursed by a never-ending abyss of housing developments, the residents of Rochester Hills enjoy a close bond with nature unrivalled by the other suburban communities in the area. For many Rochester Hills residents, the famed Paint Creek Trail is located right in their backyards. On this trail, flanked on both sides by an astoundingly beautiful forest, visitors and residents alike can bike, walk and jog to their heart’s desire. Also, the relatively untouched natural area surrounding the trail acts as a host for a huge variety of wildlife. For bird watchers and animal lovers, Rochester Hills is a veritable paradise. While the plentitude of municipal parks alone is enough to draw nature-loving tourists to the area, the nearby metro and state parks are the most vivid example of the beauty of nature which is such an integral part of life in Rochester Hills. The Stony Creek Metropark is just one of these parks. With miles of breathtaking trails and a beautiful lake, this park provides visitors with virtually any outdoor activity they wish to pursue.

Rochester Hills is a community that has the power to change perceptions and preconceived notions about suburban areas. With its charming, historic downtown and vast expanses of natural forests and lakes, Rochester Hills is a town that is practically impossible to ignore for anyone looking for a unique travel destination.
