Splish Splash is a family water park in Riverhead, New York. Riverhead is in eastern Long Island within an hours drive of the beaches known as the Hamptons. My grandparents live near there so it’s fun to visit them because we get to go for the day.

Splish Splash was voted one of the top five water parks in the U.S. by the Travel Channel. In 2003, when I went, it was also voted the number one water park in the northeast United States. Splish Splash is only made for people who live in Long island or in the Hamptons or are staying there because that is the only area that a family will drive to Splish Splash from for one day.

It is about a two-hour drive from New York City, which is too far for most families to drive for only one day. In addition, The Six Flags Great Adventure complex, which is located in New Jersey and includes Hurricane Harbor, Six Flags and Great Adventure, is only about an hour and a half away.

It is bigger than you think and you can see the newest rides on this video that is fun to watch. http://www.splishsplashlongisland.com/pages/news_a.html.

For example there is a tram that takes you from your car to the park because it is pretty far from the parking lot to the park entrance. The daily admission is $28 for an adult (or anyone over 48 inches), its $21 for anyone under 48 inches and for senior citizens who are more than 62 years old. Children under 3 are free.

There are many good attractions at Splish Splash. They have a very big and extensive wave pool, which has waves coming from both sides. It is very fun. They also have a slide called the Hollywood Stunt Rider. You take on the role of an extra in a disaster movie directed by the king of disaster movies. You go into an outdoor room where they have a plastic life size model of an obese director whose mouth moves as he talks. “Welcome, you are extras in my new movie.”

Then you walk through a series of “water bombs” which are really pipes that spray water at you. You are already soaked by the time you get to the actual slide. Then you get into a four-person raft. The ride is very fun.

There is also a very fun show called “The Hillbilly High Dive.” In this show divers in “hillbilly clothes,” perform various stunt dives off pretty high diving boards. They also take some time off to splash you.

There is also another slide that is about 100 feet high and it goes almost straight down. The slide goes on for about 50 feet after it touches the ground, giving people a chance to stop and have their picture taken.

There are some smaller slides and some play areas for little kids with shallow water. Life jackets are available upon request for free, however you must leave a deposit. All the other rides are pretty much for every one of all ages.

At Splish Splash there is also a lot of great food. There is a pizza place, a chicken place, a burgers and fries place and other food places. They all have pretty good food. However, the food is pretty expensive. You cannot bring your own food. You should save money to eat.

The actual park is very clean. The water is too. There are lockers that you can rent for an additional charge. It’s a good idea to bring a towel because on many of the rides you get extremely wet.

If you want to sit in the shade there is plenty of it. It is allowed and fun to walk around barefoot there. Splish Splash (www.splishsplashlongisland.com) is open from May to September (weather permitting). Splish Splash is open at different times on different days. The latest it ever closes is at 7:00 PM. The earliest it opens is 9:30 AM.
