The cast of MTV’s hit reality television show, The Jersey Shore, is set to film the fourth season overseas, in Italy, the network announced last week.
In statement to the press, Chris Linn, MTV’s executive vice president of programming and head of production, said, “While the Stateside ‘Jersey Shore’ locales have become iconic for our audience, it’s really the constantly evolving dynamic amongst the cast that keeps them coming back each season, and Europe is a fresh spin on a show that continues to reach new heights for us.”
He continued, “The cast is headed to the birthplace of the culture they love and live by. We can’t wait to see what erupts as a result.”
So what awaits Snooki, Deena, JWoww, Sammi, Ronnie, Pauly D, Vinny and the Situation during their time in Italy?
Those details, such as the structure of the show and the exact location of filming in Italy, have yet to be announced. The series is set to film during the spring and expected to run three months after wrap.
Jersey Shore’s appearance in Italy is not one that is welcomed by all, specifically UNICO, America’s largest Italian-American organization. According to TMZ, a rep from the organization stated that the cast members portray Italian-Americans in a poor light and they will not be well-received in Italy.
He continued, “People used to go to the circus to see the freak show – that is what this will be… It will not only hurt Italians but all Americans … their outrageous, reprehensible behavior will make us look like buffoons and bimbos.”
This may be exactly what MTV has in mind. Check out this slideshow of photoshopped images of the Jersey Shore cast members experiencing Italy. They include the Situation comparing his abs to the David in Florence and Snooki displaying a bottle of vodka in the Colessium.
A release from MTV’s newroom states that it hopes the show will “yield some hilarious cultural differences and fantastic bnreakdowns in communication.” Families planning to visit may prefer to do their itinerary planning with other sightseeing ideas from FTF’s Italy Family Travel files.
