The big city of New York had always been on my list of places to go. As seen in the movies, the tall buildings and the thousands of people seem to make it all the more inviting! Traveling here with ninety-four other people was ecstatic! We saw many places and I would highly recommend to anyone who would like a fun place to visit, to go here.
Ninety-five people made up my band and choir. We decided to venture to New York to tour this past June. However, staying together in the “Big Apple” was kind of difficult. Walking together with traffic in New York City was very interesting. Blocks are not the same distance as a block in any suburban city, that’s for sure. The group tended to disperse throughout the blocks because of traffic. Thankfully, we had one of our tallest band members lead the group with an umbrella raised above his six-foot-six body! This worked wonderfully!
There is an abundant supply of tourist attractions in New York. We were only there for four days, and we went to as many as we could. Times Square is a must see. So many different things are happening at once there! My first reaction to when I saw Times Square was, how much is that electrical bill every month? There are so many lights you don’t know what to look at first. This place is flooded with people on the streets, sidewalks, and in the stores.
One of my favorite places we spent time at was the 9/11 memorial site. This sight, even though so many people lost their lives and loved ones, it was beautiful and peaceful. Where the two towers once stood was a breath-taking view. Two baths of rushing waterfalls filled two holes in the ground the same sizes as the original towers. Surrounding this open area, there was all the names of people who lost their lives in the devastating day. Visiting this place changed my whole perspective of how great of an impact this day was to so many different families. I felt their pain and anger that day. One thing that really surprised me was the names with ‘unborn child’ attached to them. This tore me apart inside. Now going to this memorial site, I have a better understanding of the impact that was spread throughout the nation on this day.
The Trinity Church in New York was also one of my favorite places we got to visit, because I like the movie National Treasure. This was actually where a part of National Treasure was filmed. The church itself was glorious! There were tons of painted glass windows and also many organs in the front. This was a fun place to say I have now been too! All of these places were only the beginning of a very long list of places we also visited like Elis Island, Empire State building ,the Intrepid Ship where we saw the space shuttle that had just returned, China Town, Little Italy, and many more.
Telling people about New York is very entertaining for me because it brings me back there. New York now is now one my top states I have been to. I would highly encourage anyone who is looking for a great getaway to check-out New York and all the sights to be seen while they are there, just make sure you bring a tall guy with an umbrella and you will never get lost!
