College Scholarships Support Teen Literacy and Community
(New York, NY – May 6, 2013) Family Travel Forum, the award-winning resource for family vacation planners, announces its 7th annual FTF Teen Travel Writing Scholarship. The merit scholarships, given in association with the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW), encourage teens to write an essay and share images about their communities.
Top winners as selected by SATW receive cash grants: First Place ($1,000), Second Place ($500) and 3rd Place ($200) as well as travel gifts. The work of 25 additional Honorable Mention nominees and winners of the Best Photography and Best Video scholarships are rewarded with travel gifts. All the top travel blogs are posted on Family Travel Forum’s site www.MyFamilyTravels.com.
“We are proud to sponsor this scholarship with Family Travel Forum and SATW because we’re helping our teens ‘move write along’ in their academic careers,” says Joanne Vero of Travel Media Showcase, a travel industry event producer.
The Society of American Travel Writers is delighted to partner with Family Travel Forum and Travel Media Showcase to encourage the next generation of travel writers,” notes SATW President Lillian Africano. “Exploring their own home towns is a wonderful way to open their young eyes to the qualities that make the community appealing to travelers and visitors alike, and to enhance their awareness of the travel industry as a potential career path.”
The free scholarship contest is open to students ages 13 to 18 who are enrolled in a junior high, high school or homeschool program in the United States, Canada or American school abroad. Students are asked to submit a maximum 600-word blog about their community, highlighting people and attractions in the place they live or identify with, and encouraging travelers to visit there. The contest is open April 15 to July 22 and all submissions must include a photo or video.
