Are you tired of resorts and pampering on your vacations? Tired of the endless money spent on useless luxuries? Are you looking for a mediocre getaway? Come visit Killeen, Texas! We are close enough to most other cities that it’s not far from fun, but far enough away that you most likely won't feel like making the trip. So to save on gas, why not look at the many places we have to visit! There's Hallmark Lanes, a bowling alley old enough and clean enough to not be run down and not quite retro-cool either. Its family fun offered by any local bowling alley, but because our visitors aren't from Killeen, it's better! Killeen also has its own movie theater named after the dream town itself, Hollywood Theater. Sometimes a carnival comes to town, so if you do your research and have a bit of luck, you'll have a Ferris wheel and low-end games and rides to look forward to! But act quickly because it has been shut down due to fights between well, "violent groups of individuals" before. If necessary, you can make the short trip to the neighboring city of Harker Heights where they have a full shopping center and a nicer theater and a painting place, Painting with a Twist that may or may not be owned by someone from Killeen so it is approved by us K-Town residents. But really, why would you want to give up the culture and history of Killeen for the luxuries of updated construction?

Next up in the registry is food. We have all of the classic fast food places as well as Whataburger, specific to certain areas of the U.S. so if you don't have one it's new to you, as well as specific-to-Texas-fried-chicken-get-the-pepper-puppies-that-aren’t-listed-on-the-menu Golden Chick, it’s better than Bush’s Chicken. Although, if you want some good, very sweet, and cheap tea, head over to Bush’s. Theirs is also another gem that is only in Texas and that is the HEB, the best local grocery store you’ve never heard of with the best and fluffiest grocery store tortillas you’re gonna taste.
Now there is one thing that Killeen is proud of, and that is its connection to the military. Although you’ve probably never heard of Killeen itself, you’ve probably heard of Fort Hood, the largest military base in the United States. There are museums on base that give you some military history that’s more satisfying than going to see the ruined Alamo, also because we lost that battle and yet it is the most widely known out of the Texas Revolution. This is really what Killeen can pride itself on, and if you’re not happy with the trip you made down south, keep driving you’ll find more interesting place to stop and bond with your family.
