Five Memorable Days
Day One
Get set for a day full of smiles! In the morning, take a walk along the beautiful shoreline of Lake Michigan. This walk will awe and satisfy all your senses. After that fun in the sun, you can hit the light house mall and shop until you drop. There are a variety of stores to choose from: purses, shoes, jewelry, clothes, perfume, cooking supplies, sporting stores, and even books! Don’t forget to stop and get your warm mouth-watering Amish pretzel from Ben’s before you leave.
Day Two
Today you will spend the day in LaPorte, the county seat of our county. The first stop will be at the County Museum. This museum contains many historical items that original pioneers brought with them to our county. It’s so breath-taking in seeing the transition from a farm community into an industrialized working city. After an all day history lesson, one must be hungry! Why not head to a locally owned authentic mexican restaurant. At Mucho Mas you can expect any dish to be full of flavor; in addition to plenty of leftovers for the next day!
Day Three
Do you know the Haskell and Barker Car Company that merged with Pullman? Well, the owner, John H. Barker, lived in my hometown! In fact, his home that was built by his freight car production is a spectacular museum to receive a tour in. I have never seen such a beautifully ornate home that has been preserved for so long. After the tour, you can take a drive out to the country where I live. Why not go site seeing and engage your senses with cow manure. You’ll see corn field after corn field until you arrive at an old time fruit orchard called Garwood. They offer hay rides, U-pick, and tours of their facilities! It’s a family excursion I enjoy at every age. In fact, I still love biting into their delicious cider doughnuts and washing it down by chugging some ice cold apple cider.
Day Four
Let’s take a trip to the Hesston Steam Museum where one can ride a narrow gauge steam engine! It’s always a beautiful ride through wildlife with a dose of history. Hesston still burns coal and wood as their fuel source. In fact, their mills are still modeled after the 1890’s. Since you already received a blast from the past, why not head a little into the future and go to a 50’s style restaurant. Schoop’s still serves food in the red baskets and still has the diner look with a jukebox. Not only is there atmosphere friendly there, but they also make delicious burgers and irish nachos. Don’t forget to get a green river to drink.
Day Five
After four days of nonstop movement around the county, one deserves a day of relaxation and pampering at the Blue Chip Casino and Spa Blue. Start your day with a deep tissue massage then play some slot machines or cards if you’re over the age of 21. Make sure to eat at Vegas Baby or the options buffet. Also enjoy a nice cold beer from The Game. No matter how long you spend there, you will leave happy and refreshed.
