San Diego Is Great For Family Reunions - My Family Travels

Beach house rentals at top coastal resorts, such as picturesque southern California, make planning and enjoying a small family reunion easy and fun.

Thinking about a famiy reunion at the beach? If your family members are scattered between Portand, Maine and Portland, Oregon, as well as points in between, you may be planning a get-together at one convenient location to commemorate that special birthday or anniversary.  Renting a house that will accommodate several generations under one roof is not only economical, it enables your extended family to spend time together and have privacy as well.

Here are my six top beach destinations, chosen because they are easily reachable, have enough varied activities to please most kids, parents and grandparents, and offer fair weather almost year-round.

  • •  Cape Cod, Massachusetts
  • •  Galveston, Texas
  • •  Newport Beach, California
  • •  San Diego, California
  • •  Sanibel/Captiva Islands, Florida
  • •  Virginia Beach, Virginia

Tips for Planning Your House Rental

Once you’ve reviewed the “virtues” of each of my favorite destinations, discuss them with other family members, determine how convenient they will be for all parties, and decide whether you’re heading East or West.  Then you can determine with other family members how many bedrooms and bathrooms everyone will need. (Most rental vacation homes have one or more sofabeds and roll-aways for extra kids.)  Allow as much flexibility in your rental dates as possible.

Several real estate agents I interviewed for this story mentioned that since large rental homes (5-6 bedrooms) are rare, they are often booked far in advance. However, they also mentioned that many families register their homes for rental only after the January 1st deadline each year. That means you’ll have the most choices of rental homes if you call the recommended agents early in the year.

What’s Special About San Diego, California

San Diego is only three hours south of Los Angeles, but it’s a world apart in every other way.

The city’s cultural attractions, its Mexican heritage found at Old Town and the historic Mission San Diego de Alcala, its world-renowned zoo in Balboa Park; and the Victorian-era resort at Coronado provide many sightseeing opportunities above and beyond the lush sand beaches.

Visit nearby Mission Bay to stroll the boardwalk, take rides in the amusement park and visit Sea World. If anyone in your family is a “LegoManiac,” don’t pass up  LegoLand in Carlsbad. San Diego is the kind of destination which offers something for everyone in the family.

It sounds like a statement that emphasizes the importance of adults having access to things that are valuable. It could be interpreted as a reminder that adults should not be denied the opportunity to enjoy things that are considered precious or valuable. It’s a good reminder that everyone deserves to have access to things that bring them joy and happiness, regardless of their age.

Great place for kids. My 2 and 4 year old tried every water slide, pool, and toy. They loved the beach as well with the calm, warm waters. It was far from a relaxing trip but this one was all about the kids.

I live in Jacksonville and there is no longer a ‘lively waterfront’. The shops and restaurants were demolished after a mass shooting at one of the establishments. Head to the beach not downtown!! There is a lovely historic district called Avondale/Riverside area. It is absolutely beautiful with shops and restaurants and a beautiful park with a kick a** playground! The neighborhoods sit on the St John’s River. The old homes are big and beautiful. I walk that area regularly and have lived there. Stunning!!!

I agree with every word in this blog, I tried to travel to Saudi Arabia with this topic in mind. I thought a lot about choosing a sustainable activity. So I texted Ootlah website to ask them about sustainable activities and they recommended enjoying the desert in Jeddah, which causes almost no harm to the environment. I booked and tried it and it was significant.
